Staves

Staves (erroneously called Staffs in EBF3's menus) are the type of weapons used by Natalie. While they can be used as bludgeoning weapons for physical attacks, their main purpose is to act as a conduit for the user's magic, allowing them to cast spells. Some staves also have innate magic that manifests as on-hit status effects or bonus skills.

Unlike other types of weapons, which usually boost both Attack and Magic Attack to some degree, staves tend to increase Magic Attack only, with very few of them providing any physical strength bonus at all before EBF5. Staves also tend to give bonuses to the user's MP and Magic Defence.

Interestingly, Natalie's selection of staves includes some non-staff weapons, including spears, scythes, a street sign, and even a paper folding fan. As with Matt's swords, this is likely for the sake of simplicity or even humor.

All of the following stats given are for the fully upgraded (Level 5) versions of the staves. For stats at lower levels, view a staff's individual page.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

There are 22 staves in total, 3 of them (1 of which was added in the Battle Mountain update) are exclusive to the Steam release of the game and the Premium Pack. 4 of them were added in the v3 update of the Steam version. 7 of them return from EBF4; the other 15 are new.

There are 21 staves in total, 5 of which 3 of them (1 of which was added in the Battle Mountain update) are exclusive to the Steam release of the game and the Premium Pack. 7 of them are returning from previous games and 14 are new.

Unlike in EBF4, paid equipment is scattered all around the list, but their slots will automatically be skipped on free versions of the game. The following table is based off the paid version; red cells indicate paid equipment and green cells indicate seasonal equipment that can only be obtained during certain months.

Other Notable Staff Users

• Befitting their status as doppelgangers of Natalie, Dark Natalie and Natalia carry staves. The former uses the Death Scythe and the latter wields the Sol Spear.
• The Book of Spells cat toy gives NoLegs a small staff for a weapon, although he uses it as a club or spear just as much as he uses it to cast magic.
• The Cat Wizard, Drowned Fallen, and White Clay carry staves or scepters with which to cast magic.
• Xolotl is depicted with a bone staff decorated with leaves or feathers. Based on his attack names and animations, he uses it to both bludgeon the players and cast bone-themed magic.
• Some Non-Playable Characters are seen carrying staves, mostly wizard or mage-themed ones.

Trivia

• Unlike Matt or Lance's respective weapons, none of Natalie's staves have appeared in all of Epic Battle Fantasy 3, 4 and 5. The closest staves to doing so are the Obsidian Staff and the Dark Tooth, which appeared in EBF3 and 5 while almost appearing in EBF4 (the Obsidian Staff was dummied out late in development, while the Dark Tooth appears in cutscenes but is not available in gameplay).
