"Filth, sin, unholiness...

These things I am going to cleanse, WITH FIRE AND HOLY LIGHT!!
"
―Natalia, Epic Battle Fantasy 5

Natalia is a boss in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. She is found in the Temple of Trials, together with other Evil Players — as such, she is currently exclusive to the paid Steam release of the game.

Appearance

Natalia looks superficially similar to Natalie, with a curvy figure and ginger hair, but with a corrupted twist. She has mauve skin, black eyes with yellow pupils ,and a yellow gem on her forehead vaguely resembling a third eye. Her mouth is wide and jagged, but this is only apparent when she opens it; when closed, her mouth appears identical to a normal human's. She wields the Sol Spear and wears modified versions of the Pope's Hat and Pope's Dress, with the white parts replaced with black.

As with Natalie, disabling the Cleavage option alters Natalia's top to cover her breasts and midriff.

Personality

Natalia behaves like a religious fanatic, praising the "Lord", ranting about the party being "unclean" and demanding that they let her "cleanse" them with fire and holy light. Many of her quotes imply that she tries to carry herself with calm gravitas until her fanaticism gets the better of her and she resumes ranting at the top of her lungs. She becomes even more unhinged as the battle goes on, to the point where she can only cackle maniacally when her HP is fully depleted. Her sanity doesn't improve after being captured; while she doesn't seem to hold a grudge against the party, she still takes psychotic glee in bombarding everything before her with her magic.

Natalia's personality appears to be a corrupted exaggeration of Natalie's scholarly background and her exasperation with her teammates' less moral habits.

Overview

As with other Evil Player battles, the players will be afflicted with a special unremovable status until the boss is defeated. Natalia's is Undead (EBF5 Status Undead.png). It decreases players' Fire and Holy resistances by 100%, blocks Regen's effects completely and makes players' healing and revival skills heal 0 (revival still works, but it will bring a player to life with 0 HP; from this point, getting hurt for positive/zero damage or taking a turn kills the player, but getting healed in any way doesn't kill even if it heals zero HP). Elemental absorption, draining skills, summons and items heal normally.

Natalia takes full advantage of Undead by bombarding the party with strong Fire and Holy attacks. While most of her skills are magic-based, she can also perform a few physical attacks, like Seiken and Volcano. After losing some HP, she can summon orbs of Fire or Holy energy that fly into the air and land on the party one turn later, giving her extreme burst damage. When her Limit Break bar fills up, she'll use either Supernova or Genesis, depending on her HP.

Natalia begins battle with a pair of Mage Dogs; if they fall, she can summon new foes a few turns later, also giving herself Defend status in the process. She also knows Dispel, which she'll use to clear debuffs from herself and her allies - however, she only checks her own buff/debuff status when deciding to cast it, which makes it more predictable.

On higher difficulty levels, Natalia's Volcano inflicts Scorch instead of Burn, her summon/self-buff increases her Evade, and she gains the ability to cast Dispel on players if their combined buffs are too high. The latter trait makes Art Attack and especially 7th Heaven less viable unless the player intends to defeat her on the same turn.

Natalia absorbs both Fire and Holy, but her severe weaknesses to Water, Wind, and Dark give the player plenty of options to damage her. Physical attacks are recommended; her Magic Defence is ridiculously high, but her Defence is mediocre. Aside from the usual boss immunity to Stun, Chill, Freeze, Syphon, Doom, and Instant Death, she resists Bad Luck, Curse, Stagger, Dispel, Tired, and Weaken; while not shown in her Bestiary entry, she's also immune to Invisible and Enchanted. She is effectively immune to both Magic Defence and Magic Attack debuffs, in addition to strongly resisting all other debuffs (particularly HP).

With "More Foe Resistance" active, Natalia's weaknesses are reduced by 30%, she absorbs Thunder and Ice in addition to Fire and Holy, and she gains a Bio resistance.

Battle Logic

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • Limit Break;
    • ≤32% HP → Genesis;
    • Otherwise → Supernova;
  • If Summon Score ≥7 → Buff;
  • If for Natalia [sum of debuffs - sum of buffs] ≥ 80% → Dispel (Allies);
  • If playing on Hard/Epic, and between all active players [sum of buffs - sum of debuffs] ≥ 350% → Dispel (All) (1/3);
    • <49% HP → Holy Orbs (1/6), Fire Orbs (1/6), Judgement (1/6), Volcano (1/6);
    • <74% HP → Normal Attack (2/6), Holy Orbs (1/6), Fire Orbs (1/6);
    • Otherwise → Normal Attack;
  • <49% HP → Holy Orbs (1/4), Fire Orbs (1/4), Judgement (1/4), Volcano (1/4);
  • <74% HP → Normal Attack (2/4), Holy Orbs (1/4), Fire Orbs (1/4);
  • Otherwise → Normal Attack.

* Natalia's Limit Break becomes available every time she receives damage equal to 35% of her max HP.

* Summon score increases by 1 if there's only 1 other foe left and by 2 if no other foes are left (checked at the start of Natalia's turn), and resets to 0 after summoning.

Before the v2 update, summon score reset when it reached ≥7 even if she couldn't summon due to using her Limit Break, which could delay her re-summoning.

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 100% → Normal Attack.

Strategy

The foes Natalia summons all have the ability to amplify her damage even further by causing Dry or Invisible, and the Mage Dog can also act as a healer. As a result they should be defeated as soon as they show up. Keeping the Roasted Gloops alive may be ideal, since she can't summon Mage Dogs to take their place if they're both taking up the enemy slots.

Undead's negative effects on Fire and Holy resistance means that getting resistance to those two elements is almost mandatory. However, it is likely that any given player will still be fairly weak to one or both of Natalia's preferred elements. Burn/Scorch resistance is a good idea, since even if the fire damage is mitigated the HP debuff inflicted by Scorch will still be highly dangerous. Natalia also frequently uses an assortment of status conditions, such as Weaken, Burn, Scorch and Dispel. Curse may also come into play, but only as a side effect of Genesis, meaning it is far less of an issue.

Healing magic and Regen are worthless in this particular battle due to Undead, so items (preferably alongside equipment that enhances their effects) and summons (such as King Slime, TOTOM, and especially PHOENIX) should be used to address the party's healing needs instead. Coffee (or better yet, Espresso) should be used instead of the Revive spell. NoLegs can be a good option with the Dog Sausage; aside from boosting Food, it gives him Fire resistance and makes Natalia's Mage Dog support go Berserk, locking them out of their irritating spells while preventing Natalia from buffing herself or calling new foes.

Enchanted will grant immunity to most of Natalia's attacks, but it can backfire if she decides to use Volcano or unleashes Seiken with her Normal Attack. Wearing equipment that gives Enchanted upon Defending and combining it with a piece of equipment that gives Target (such as the Target Badge and the Bubble Dress) allows the player to draw in and nullify magic attacks, minimizing the amount of times that Natalia will pull off a KO. This works on all single-target and Random magic, as well as taking the main damage from centered magic.

Builds

General Note: Bolded equipment is Highly Recommended, often being crucial to the set's success. Other items are still suggested, but feel free to make your own setup.

Enchant Tank

This isn't a build so much as it is a vital set up for one character. With this, the equipped player should be highly resilient to quite literally anything Natalia throws at them, barring a mere three attacks (two of which are part of the same combo). Weapon varies based on personal preference; a supportive one may be useful for spare turns, while boosting Fire/Holy resistance or Evade should help endure the attacks that do get through. Keep in mind that this set will do little against most of the summoned minions.

The Enchant Tank relies on using an armor that grants them the Enchanted status when defending and combining it with one of the flairs that grants them Target when defending. This combination allows them to draw in and nullify most of the enemy's magic attacks, which forms the vast majority of Natalia's offense. Consider using Matt for this role; his high HP and Defence will slightly mitigate the downsides of Enchanted if Natalia decides to use her few physical attacks.

Female Enchant Tank

Summon

"HahahahaHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

BURN IT ALL DOWN!!

―Natalia, when summoned

Natalia can be captured for use as a summon. When called, she uses a powered-up Judgement on each foe in the wave, dealing enormous magical Holy damage with high Accuracy and a boosted critical chance. While hampered by a massive SP cost, no special on-hit effects, and extremely late availability, she remains one of the party's strongest sources of multi-target Holy damage outside of Genesis

Trivia

  • Much like Dark Natalie in EBF4, clicking on Natalia's breasts will cause them to jiggle (only if the "Cleavage" option is enabled). This will count towards the Squishy medal.
  • Despite wearing the Pope Hat, Natalia lacks the associated spiraling twintails; instead, she seems to have Natalie's "default" hairstyle. She shares this design quirk with Dark Natalie.
  • In the original image of the Evil Players (before their designs were finalized), Matt Roszak depicts Natalia wearing the regular white version of the Pope Hat and Pope Dress, as well as styling her hair into twintails.
  • Natalia's summon is the most expensive of the Evil Players aside from God.
