"Why is this dragon camouflaged to look like a lasagne?"
―Matt taunting the dragon, Epic Battle Fantasy 5

The Sea Dragon is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. While rare, a few individuals can be found scattered across the Rainbow River and on the northern coast of The Rapture.

Appearance

The Sea Dragon is a large reptilian monster that resembles a massive sea horse (or lasagna, if Matt is to be believed). It has a yellow-orange head with pale eyes and a long snout, along with an orange lower jaw with no visible teeth. The back of its head expands into a small frill with orange edges and tiny black spots; behind this is a second, red-colored frill surrounded by orange projections resembling coral branches. A single frond of dark green Seaweed is stuck on one of these projections.

The Sea Dragon's neck is a mottled orange with yellow-orange plates along the top and a thin yellow-orange line running along the lower edge. Small flaps of red and orange skin dangle along the underside of its neck and lower jaw.

Overview

The Sea Dragon uses strong non-elemental physical attacks along with an Earth multi-target physical attack, but its main strategy revolves around powerful magical breath attacks that deal significant Water damage to the entire party and inflict Wet. It then follows up with Ice and Thunder skills to exploit this; its Tundra can even apply Chill, which becomes Freeze if applied to a Wet target. On the defensive side of things, it can roar to buff enemy Magic Defence and debuff the party's Magic Attack at the same time, bracing it against magical attacks. Its Evade is a little higher than normal, but it won't be noticeable in most situations.

Ironically, the Sea Dragon's own tactics can be turned against it; while it absorbs Water, it has no Wet resistance and weaknesses to both Ice and Thunder. By applying Wet, the party can set up a deadly elemental combo of their own. Alternatively, they can exploit the dragon's Bio weakness by stacking Poison and/or Virus on it, possibly adding in Tired to increase the damage. On the other hand, Fire and Wind will do little against it, and it's completely immune to Doom and Instant Death; it can suffer Stun, Chill, Freeze, and Syphon, but its strong resistances will likely require a dedicated status build and powerful sources of those ailments to overcome. It's also somewhat resistant to all stat debuffs besides HP.

"More Foe Resistance" slightly increases the Sea Dragon's debuff resistances, grants it very strong resistance to Weaken, Tired, Curse, and Bad Luck, and makes it immune to Fire, Ice, Bio, and Wind.

      • If a randomly selected player is Wet and at least one player is not resistant to Ice or Thunder → Ground Pound (12/45), Water Puke (4/45), Magic* (14/25);
      • Otherwise → Ground Pound (6/15), Water Puke (4/15);

      • Otherwise → Head Bash (1/5), Double Peck (1/5), Ground Pound (1/5), Water Puke (2/5).

* "Magic" chooses best elemental spell based on active party's elemental resistance between Tundra and Spark.

* Head Bash and Double Peck (except when Syphoned) become Ground Pound when <25% HP; Water Puke becomes Mega Bubble when <49% HP.

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

Summon

Emo0025.jpg "That's not good. I'm sorry I made fun of-"
―Matt now regretting crossing the rubicon

The Sea Dragon can be captured and used as a summon; it can also be called by the Alt Nimbus Rod, albeit rarely. It roars to debuff the Attack of all enemies before using Mega Bubble to inflict accurate magical Water damage with a great chance to apply two stacks of Wet.
