Flare (also known as Solar Flare) is a debuffing skill available for Natalie in Epic Battle Fantasy 2, and for Natalie and Lance in Epic Battle Fantasy 3, 4 and 5.

Description

When cast, a flash of blinding light shines at the opposite team, reducing their Accuracy. In earlier games, it also dealt a small amount of non-elemental magic damage, although its debuff remains its most important feature.

Flare is an excellent option against any foe, unless they're completely immune to Accuracy debuffs. Combining it with Reflex makes the party vastly more difficult to hit.

Flare is one of the skills under Natalie's "White Magic" category. It inflicts Blind status to all foes, halving their Accuracy, and also deals some minor non-elemental damage.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3

Flare is unlocked by completing a quest at Rock Lake for Joseph. It is now a Special Skill available for Natalie and Lance, instead of being exclusive to Natalie. It also slightly damages the target, but only at half of the power shown in-game.

Compared to EBF2, Flare is more accurate and a little cheaper to cast, but its debuff chance is lower and the Accuracy drop isn't as high.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

Flare has been renamed Solar Flare, once again being a Special Skill for Natalie and Lance. Compared to EBF3, its infliction chance has improved while its AP costs have decreased slightly; on the other hand, it no longer deals any damage and its debuff strength is lower at higher levels.

Solar Flare is found on the first full-inside screen (with Levers I and II) of the Waste Disposal Plant, in the left central chest blocked by a battle that appears as a Sludge Slime. The battle can be avoided by breaking the nearby boulders with The Hammer, but that item is only obtained after defeating the Praetorian at the end of the plant.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

Flare is obtained by completing Wakizashi's quest in The Rapture, in the first screen coming from Redpine. Aside from reverting to its pre-EBF4 name, it has been nerfed slightly from its previous appearance; its Accuracy is lower (but still higher than normal skills), its infliction chance has been reduced on its first two levels, and it now has a 2-turn cooldown. On the other hand, its AP costs are lower than in EBF4, and it benefits from the new Equipment Effects; with three debuff boosts, it'll be able to reduce enemy Accuracy by up to 60%.

Trivia

  • Flare's animation and blinding effect may be a reference to the Solar Flare/Taiyoken technique from the Dragon Ball series.
