Snail

The Snail, also known as Garden Snail, is a foe found in Epic Battle Fantasy 3 and 4. It appears primarily in Vegetable Forest (EBF3) and the Crystal Caverns (EBF4). Despite being a different species (a mollusc, like Squids, wheras crabs are arthopods), it is considered a member of the Crabs, due to similarities in their appearance and abilities.

Appearance

The Snail is a large green snail with bulging eyes; its left eye is particularly large, with a light green vein visible. It has a coiled tan shell with dark brown stripes.

Overview

The Snail is an incredibly simple foe with pathetically weak physical attacks. Although it can tuck into its shell to improve its defenses, its numerous weaknesses and generally low stats (including below-average Evade) allow the party to kill it with ease, even without removing its defensive buffs. As such, Snails are usually bottom-priority targets that can be safely ignored until all other foes are dead.

In both games, the Snail resists Fire, Wind, and Water, but is weak to Ice, Earth, and Bio. It is also vulnerable to Poison, allowing it to be worn down easily over time.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3

The Garden Snail may be a notorious threat to crops (if its Bestiary entry is to be believed), but it's little more than a joke even to a Level 0 party. Its Bubbles can debuff Evade and its Shell Visit can make it slightly harder to kill, but there isn't much else to note; its "strongest" attack has a mere 20 Base Power on top of being slightly less accurate than normal skills.

The Garden Snail is slightly resistant to Fire and Water and significantly resistant to Thunder and Wind, but it is weak to Bomb, Earth, Bio, and especially Ice. Additionally, it has a significant Poison vulnerability that can be easily exploited; thanks to EBF3's Poison mechanics, a few stacks of the status should kill the Garden Snail while the party focuses on other, more dangerous enemies.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

The Snail's offensive threat is barely existent, with its only attack dealing weak physical Water damage without any special effects. It's slightly more notable on the defensive side, being able to give itself Defend (as well as Morale on higher difficulties), but it's still not particularly dangerous.

The Snail resists Fire, Water, and Bomb while being completely immune to Wind. It is weak to Thunder, Earth, and especially Ice and Bio; the latter works well with its susceptibility to Poison. With "More Foe Resistance" active, it loses its Thunder weakness and becomes immune to Stun.

Trivia

  • The Snail makes an appearance in Epic Battle Fantasy 5 as an interactable animal in-game. It's mainly found around the Mystic Woods and the Deathly Hollows; as with all interactable animals, it can be used to achieve the "Where's Satan?" Medal by interacting with it until it flips upside down and turns red.
