The Celtic Cross is a Holy-elemental staff available for Natalie in Epic Battle Fantasy 5.
Description
The Celtic Cross is a staff made of weathered grey stone, dotted with small patches of green moss. It gets its name from the square cross inside a ring that forms the center of its head, surrounded by four slabs of stone in the cardinal directions, each marked with a faint triquetra (also known as a "trinity knot"). A green cloth ribbon hangs from each arm of the cross, with another wrapped around the staff just beneath its head.
If Natalie equips the Celtic Cross with the Pope Dress, the staff gains red ribbons and a metallic golden appearance.
Normal
The Celtic Cross is mostly useful as a balanced Holy staff, with slightly-below-average offenses and modest bonuses to Evade and Magic Defence. It powers up Natalie's Holy attacks and provides some extra options for her to take advantage of this; a Holy Light counter and a Talisman Seal unleash. The latter can be used to reliably inflict Curse on foes, weakening their defenses and boosting any subsequent Holy damage; it also saddles the target with a significant Magic Attack debuff. Additionally, the staff causes certain types of ghost-based foes to go Berserk or Surrender (see Foes & Bestiary for specific info).
Although the Celtic Cross provides much more Holy-focused damage than the Slime Staff, its unexceptional offenses mean that it can't really measure up to other staves outside of its element. It's mainly useful for offensive support, having better synergy with its wielder than the Godly Book (a Holy-focused cat toy with a similar focus on applying Curse) while setting up powerful attacks from Angel Wing Anna or King's Guard NoLegs.
The Celtic Cross resists Water, Dark and Holy, becoming immune to none of them when fully upgraded.
Equip Remix
The Alt Celtic Cross's stats aren't particularly impressive, with weak offenses and a modest HP bonus. It boosts Holy skills, has a decent chance to unleash Seiken with Weapon-elemental skills, and counters with a Normal Attack, but all of these are somewhat wasted by its low offensive power and Natalie's poor base Attack. It also intimidates Ghost-class foes, which can be useful or hindering in certain situations.
Where the Alt Celtic Cross truly shines is its massive chance of inflicting Doom with weapon-elemental skills, which allows Natalie to easily dispatch foes after a few turns; thanks to its counter attack, it can even do this passively. It should be combined with hats and armor that raise status infliction chances, as well as sources of Bad Luck (such as Firecrackers or The Alt Deceased) that can turn its on-hit Doom into Instant Death.
The Alt Celtic Cross's main competition is the Alt Soul Crusher, which is generally more efficient for passively killing single foes. However, the Alt Celtic Cross is available a little earlier while boasting comparatively superior Magic Attack, Accuracy, and multi-target status infliction; even without support, Rainbow Blast will have a 60% chance to Doom non-resistant foes.
The Alt Celtic Cross has Holy, Curse, and Bad Luck resistances, becoming immune to all of them at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 5
The Celtic Cross is found in Greenwood Village, inside a chest in the southwest corner of the lakeside shrine. The chest is hidden behind some bamboo stalks and is guarded by a battle that appears as a Cat Ninja.
