Purging Flame, also known as Holy Fire in Epic Battle Fantasy 4, is a Holy-elemental special skill available for Matt, Natalie, Lance, and Anna in Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5.

Description

When cast, seven white orbs appear around a single target before dissipating into small white clouds, dealing moderate magical Holy damage with a chance to apply Dispel and debuff Magic Defence (Epic Battle Fantasy 4) or Magic Attack (Epic Battle Fantasy 5). It also has higher Accuracy than regular skills.

In Epic Battle Fantasy 4, Holy Fire works best on Lance, who both lacks a Holy skill and has high Magic Attack. While he already has a Dispelling attack in Armor Crush, Holy Fire's above-average power makes it a useful skill for offensive purposes. In v1, Anna lacks a practical Holy skill and can make good use of the Dispel, but her stats tend to be more oriented towards physical skills.

In Epic Battle Fantasy 5, Purging Flame has a higher status chance and even higher Accuracy, but is significantly weaker than almost all other magic skills. It does have some support utility, as it has one of the only strong Magic Attack debuffs and 0 cooldown Dispel. However, it being a single-target attack limits its use, since the player could just cast Dispel and then follow up with a Weaken skill. Purging Flame can be used to jumpstart Weaken's debuff or give additional Dispel options, but is overall a fairly situational skill.

Purging Flame is obtained by completing Angela's quest in the first tree you need to enter in the Mystic Woods.

Trivia

• Due to a typo, before the v2 update fixed it, Holy Fire in EBF4 was the only skill in the game to have its MP cost reduced after upgrading (namely from Level 3 to Level 4).
