"*A bush screams at you in a foreign language. You're not sure what to make of it.*"
―In-game narration

BOSH is a miniboss and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5, introduced in the v2 update. It is found in a secret room behind the Greenwood Village Material/Food Shop, which fittingly appears as an underground garden with various seedlings (such as Cloudberries, Garlic, and Herbs) and flower pots.

Appearance

BOSH appears to be a small green bush in an 8-bit pixelated art style. Unlike Bushes. it lacks arms, but it has four small brown legs (presumably roots) to walk on. A short brown stem protrudes from its top, bearing a pair of large green leaves or leaf-covered twigs. BOSH's face consists of two brown eyes and a mouth, with a shadow over the former and a puffed-out cheek on one side of the latter; this gives it an expression reminiscent of a grumpy pout.

Overview

BOSH's main tactic is to cripple the party's stats, with abilities that have a high chance of debuffing Evade, Attack, Defence, and Magic Defence. It can also Dispel the party to counter their buffs, grant itself a stack of Regen, and inflict Tired to further debuff Evade and Accuracy while slightly empowering its Bio attacks. On higher difficulty levels, its Dispel chance and Regen stacks are doubled while its Attack debuff becomes four times stronger, allowing it to render physical attackers all but impotent with a single use of Bushy Vines.

Like all Arcade foes, BOSH's attacks have a 25% elemental degree, so resistance will do little to reduce their damage; its base offenses are low, but its moves have high power to compensate. It has a fairly strong part-Water attack and a relatively weak Bio attack, but its deadliest move is a series of four powerful leaf attacks that hit random players for slightly Bio-based physical damage. This attack has slightly below-average Accuracy, but all of its other moves have normal or better Accuracy; Scream in particular is literally twice as likely to hit as regular skills. On top of that, BOSH's base Accuracy is fairly high, and its Evade is slightly better than average.

BOSH absorbs Earth, Bio, and Water while being weak to Fire, Wind, and Dark. It is immune to Doom and Instant Death, extremely resistant to Stun, Chill, Freeze, and debuffs to Magic Attack and Magic Defence, fairly resistant to Syphon, Bad Luck, Weaken, Tired, and Curse, and slightly resistant to all other stat debuffs except for HP. If "More Foe Resistance" is active, its weaknesses are reduced, it becomes immune to Chill, Freeze, and Holy, and its resistance to Syphon and Attack/Accuracy debuffs increases.

BOSH gains up to 24% extra Attack, Magic Attack, HP and Accuracy depending on how many optional bosses have been killed, medals awarded and monster cards obtained:

After level 22, BOSH gains a 5% boost to Attack and Magic Attack, and a 2.5% boost to HP and Accuracy on every level-up (these boosts stack additively, acting as a multiplier). This boost caps out at level 36.

Battle Logic

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • If no other foes are left → Flee;
  • If Syphoned, Berserked, or catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Leaf Storm;
  • Otherwise → Bushy Vines (1/6), Waterfall (1/6);
    • If the selected target has at least a 15% Defence debuff → Leaf Storm (2/3);
    • Otherwise → Scream (1/3), Leaf Storm (1/3).

*Waterfall always targets the best Dispel target based on player buffs, ignoring Lovable and Target.

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 25% and not Syphoned → Waterfall.

Additionally, if there are less than 2 other foes left, BOSH will inflict 3x Berserk on themselves at the start of their turn, increased to 5x on Hard/Epic (this doesn't take up their action). This effect will only happen once.

Strategy Tips

As usual for an Arcade battle, prioritize status resistance and raw bulk over elemental resistances, due to the low elemental degree on BOSH's moves. High Tired and Dispel resistance are important to prevent the foe's ailments from taking hold; on Hard or Epic, Waterfall is guaranteed to Dispel a player with up to 50% resistance. A bulky Target Tank with Morale support can reduce the threat of Scream and draw in Leaf Storm; however, BOSH can ignore Target when using Waterfall, which is why full-party Dispel immunity is advised.

For damage combos, either Fire or Wind will work best against BOSH; Dark damage is a bit harder to amplify, due to its Weaken resistance. If at least two of the enemies are severely damaged, setting up a combo for Lance's Nuke will likely wipe them out; earlier in the battle, Death Metal can be used to get a big Wind-based hit while healing the party and providing Morale against Scream's defensive debuffs.

BOSH isn't immune to Freeze outside of "More Foe Resistance", so NoLegs has a decent chance to immobilize it with the Book of Spells status build and support from the other players. If using this strategy to reduce the enemies' offensive pressure, consider using moves like Eruption or Airwave over Bullet Hell and Power Metal; their splash damage will thaw out any Frozen BOSHs.

Summon

BOSH can be captured and used as a summon; additionally, the Alt Pixel Popper can sometimes call it between turns. It uses a modified version of Scream to inflict an enormous Attack debuff on all foes; if paired with Weaken support, this can almost completely negate the threat of physically-inclined enemies that aren't highly resistant to Attack drops.
