Gold Fish

From Epic Battle Fantasy Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Gold Fish is a foe in Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5, and a summon in the latter. In EBF4, it appears primarily in the Temple of Godcat; in EBF5, it's mainly found in the Iron Fortress.

Appearance

True to its name, the Gold Fish loosely resembles a fish made out of golden metal. It hovers in the air with two rocket boosters on its sides, with an additional thruster in its "tail" used for propulsion. It has a large structure on its back resembling an exaggerated dorsal fin, and its front is dominated by a huge "mouth."

In EBF4, the Gold Fish is very bright-looking, with pale gold accents, a single thruster on its tail, and a propellor visible in its "mouth." In EBF5, its main color becomes dark gold, it has two small thrusters on its tail, a strange red crest is attached to the golden plate on its "head," and the propellor in its "mouth" is removed; some of its attack animations reveal that it has a Holy-based beam cannon and a huge retractable lance hidden within its body.

Overview

The Gold Fish has a decent selection of attacks, mainly physical moves with a spell or two for variety. Its elemental damage varies between appearances, but it typically has a Fire-based move that can occasionally Burn its targets. As with all Fishes, it gets a final attack off when killed, hitting one player for magical Bomb damage with a good chance of Stagger. This attack can be prevented, but the method of doing so changes between games.

In both of its appearances, the Gold Fish is weak to Wind and immune to Earth.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

The Gold Fish attacks with physical Wind, Fire, and non-elemental skills. It can buff its Evade and inflict mild Burn, but its most memorable skill comes when it dies; its thrusters will break off and hit a random party member for magical Bomb damage and a high chance of Stagger. Like all Fishes in EBF4, this final attack can be avoided by killing the Gold Fish at the very end of the wave.

The Gold Fish resists Freeze while being immune to Burn, Poison, Earth, and Bio, but it has serious weaknesses to Wind, Thunder, and Bomb. Activating "More Foe Resistance" makes it immune to Thunder, Stun, and Evade debuffs while giving it a Holy absorption and resistance to Dark and Dispel.

The Gold Fish is notable as the only regular enemy in the game that can drop the Chain Link material. It also has a small chance to drop a Gold Plate when destroyed, although elite enemies like the Gold Dragon and certain Monoliths have better drop rates for this material.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

The Gold Fish mainly uses physical attacks, some of which have a slight Fire element and a chance to Burn their targets. It can also use a laser beam that deals magical Holy damage with a chance to inflict Dry on higher difficulty levels, slightly increasing the damage of its Fire attacks.

When killed, the Gold Fish's thrusters will hit a random player with Bomb Blast for decent magical Bomb damage and a chance of Stagger. Unlike EBF4, killing the Gold Fish last won't stop this attack; instead, try to Stun or Syphon it before striking the final blow. Capturing it is another option to prevent its parting shot.

The Gold Fish absorbs Thunder and Bomb while being immune to Earth, Poison, and Virus and resistant to Bio and Holy; on the other hand, it's weak to Wind and Dark. "More Foe Resistance" makes it neutral to Wind, immune to Fire and Ice, and highly resistant to Accuracy and Evade debuffs; its Holy resistance is also increased to an absorption.

Battle Logic

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

  • Death → Mini Missiles;
  • Berserked → Ram;
  • Syphoned → Jet Flow;
  • Otherwise → Ram (1/4), Smoke Cloud (1/4), Cooler (1/4), Jet Flow (1/4).

Mini Missiles will not be activated if no foes are left in the wave.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Swift Flight (3/4), Holy Laser (1/4);
  • If Syphoned → Ram (1/2), Triple Loop (1/2);
  • If Berserked → Holy Laser;
  • Otherwise → Ram (1/4), Triple Loop (1/4), Swift Flight (1/4), Holy Laser (1/4).

*Triple Loop will prioritize targets that aren't resistant to Fire.

Additionally, the Steam Fish will use its Fish Missiles when it's killed (unless it's Syphoned or Stunned).

Unlike most other foes, the Gold Fish doesn't get a counter when Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled.

Summon

In EBF5, the foe can be captured to be used as a summon. It uses its Holy Beam to hit all enemies for magical Holy damage and a small chance of Dry.

Trivia

  • The Gold Fish is the only member of the Fishes to have the same name in both EBF4 and EBF5.
