"May there be mercy on man and machine for their sins."
―Natalie, Epic Battle Fantasy 3

Genesis is a Holy-elemental Limit Break available for Natalie in Epic Battle Fantasy 3, 4 and 5.

Description

When Genesis is cast, a stylized white cross with wings appears in the middle of the battlefield. Next the ground shatters and screen whites out until a view of the entire planet can be seen. Finally, a huge winged crucifix appears in a blast of motes, feathers, and shock waves, blasting the surface of the planet with its base. The imagery is effectively an inverted Doomsday (or perhaps Supernova would be more accurate).

Genesis deals high Holy-elemental damage to all enemies, making it a rare example of an area-of-effect Holy spell accessible to players, yet the spell is used primarily for its utility function — providing Auto-Revive to the living players (which will automatically revive them with all stat buffs and status effects still active if they die in subsequent turns) and reviving the dead ones, which is very helpful against stronger enemies and bosses.

Foe Users

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

  • Natalia (applies Curse to foes on front, doesn't buff the user's side)

Epic Battle Fantasy 3

Using Genesis for the first time will award the player with the Genesis medal.

It should be noted that the Revive casted by Genesis scales based on Genesis's own Power, and is thus not affected by the actual Revive spell's level/power.

Trivia

  • In EBF3, Natalie quotes a line from The Animatrix when casting Genesis for the first time: "May the sins of man and machine be forgiven."
  • The name and animation of this Limit Break are an allusion to Genesis, the first book in the Old Testament of the Bible.
  • Natalie uses a shortened version of Genesis as her Bomb attack in Bullet Heaven.
  • Genesis would appear to either be striking the United Kingdom or somewhere in the vicinity of Greenland or Iceland. However, the image used is just a stock image from NASA, and has no connection to any in-game locations.
  • In EBF5, when the final boss deletes the world, using Genesis will cause a black circle labelled "ERROR 404 NOT FOUND" to appear where the world would be.
  • Genesis' animation, like that of Seven Swords, was inspired by Neon Genesis Evangelion.
