"That Purple Bee is a healer! Kill it!"
―Natalie, when a Purple Bee uses Heal for the first time, Epic Battle Fantasy 3

The Purple Wasp, also known as Purple Bee, is a recurring foe in the Epic Battle Fantasy series. It appears primarily in Vegetable Forest, Rock Lake (in Epic Battle Fantasy 3), and Lankyroot Jungle (in Epic Battle Fantasy 4).

Appearance

Despite its name, the Purple Wasp looks more lepidopteran than vespoid; in fact, its EBF3 Bestiary entry outright calls it a "Mystic Butterfly". It has a black body with no visible legs, giving it a slimmer profile than most Giant Insects. Its black head has large purple eyes and two curved antennae, and two pairs of large purple wings on its back.

Overview

The Purple Wasp is the support-oriented member of its family; its attacks are weak and it can't summon backup, but it can hit the entire party with "sparkly stuff" that can occasionally inflict Syphon. More importantly, it can heal the entire enemy wave (including itself), which makes it a priority target; if you can't kill it outright, either Syphon or Berserk will disable its most annoying skills, leaving it with only a pathetic non-elemental physical strike.

In both of its appearances, the Purple Wasp resists Earth while being weak to Thunder and Wind. As a flying foe, its Evade tends to be above-average, but this is only mildly annoying in most circumstances.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3

Despite slightly above-average Magic Attack, the Purple Bee is a support foe first and foremost. It can hit all three players with Wind magic that can inflict Syphon; fortunately, it's quite lacking in both power and status chance. The real problem is its healing ability, which restores some HP for every foe in the wave; that includes the Bee itself, which can make it a little harder to wear down.

The quickest way to disable a Purple Bee is to give it a taste of its own disruptive medicine; Syphon and Berserk will seal its magic, forcing it to resort to a slightly inaccurate non-elemental physical attack. Unfortunately, the party won't have means to exploit this when it's first encountered, unless they somehow grinded enough gold to buy the Flameheart for Natalie's Unleash. In absence of these statuses, it's not too difficult to kill the Bee outright; Natalie and Lance can easily exploit many of its elemental weaknesses, while Matt can take advantage of its below-average Defence with skills like Fume and Tundra; alternatively, he can use Quick Slash with the Avenger to mitigate the foe's somewhat high Evade.

The Purple Bee is weak to Thunder, Wind, Bomb, and especially Dark attacks. On the other hand, it's moderately resistant to Holy and Poison, and nearly immune to Earth. In terms of status effects, it is especially vulnerable to Syphon and resistant to both Doom and Instant Death.

The Purple Bee is somewhat notable as an early source of Purple Potions, although a 10% drop rate makes it rather inefficient to farm.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

The Purple Wasp has barely any damage output, with two weak non-elemental attacks; however, its multi-target magic has a slight chance to Syphon the entire front line. It can also heal the entire enemy wave, with the amount healed depending on the targets; it also has a decently high Randomness factor, although not enough to be especially notable even if the recipient lucks out with a big number.

Despite being generally unimpressive, the Purple Wasp should be a high-priority target simply for its ability to make other foes more difficult to kill by restoring their HP and locking the party out of their skills. It has many exploitable weaknesses to help kill it outright, but Syphon and Berserk will also render it near-impotent for a while. Lance's Bullet Hell is particularly good for hitting it hard and chipping away at the many Fire-weak foes it's usually fought alongside, but the party has no shortage of options for taking it out in short order.

The Purple Wasp resists Earth, but is weak to Holy, Thunder, Wind, Bio, and Fire. It has no status resistances unless "More Foe Resistance" is active; in that case, it becomes resistant to Stun in addition to losing its Fire, Thunder, and Wind weaknesses.
