The Fabulous Gloop foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5 introduced in the v2 update. It is found in the Battle Arena during Natalie's solo challenge.

Appearance

The Fabulous Gloop is similar to the Stumpy Gloop; a slimy black creature using a tree stump as a protective shell, with two white eyes and slim arms visible through a crack in the middle of the stump. However, the Fabulous Gloop's "armor" has a reddish tint, with pink leaves and white flowers growing out of the top.

The Fabulous Gloop has two visual variants, based on the shape of the upper half of its shell:

  1. Appears to be the top of a tree or shrub, with several clusters of leaves and the flowers on the Gloop's left side. Two notches are visible on the front of the stump where branches were cut off, making the shell resemble a face with mismatched eyes and a wide, jagged mouth.
  2. Appears to be the bottom of a tree, with the interior of the log visible among the leaf clusters. The white flowers grow out of the Gloop's right side.

Overview

The Fabulous Gloop is somewhat more offensively inclined than its cousins, with its most notable trait being the sheer variety of its attack options. It has a single-target spell for every element except for Dark and Bomb; the former is covered by its physical attacks (albeit with a low elemental degree), and even the latter is accessible via its Spectrum attack, which randomly chooses any element in the game for its damage output. Each spell has an associated status effect and/or debuff, with infliction chances ranging from low to fairly high. Its defensive move is essentially a reskinned combination of Cherish and Cleanse; it removes any negative status effects or debuffs the Gloop is suffering from while applying Lovable to prevent it from being directly targeted for a while.

On higher difficulty levels, the Fabulous Gloop's Hit and Arm Flail gain a small chance to make the target Invisible, giving its spells more punch while protecting them from physical damage.

Resisting the Fabulous Gloop's offensive is easier said than done, especially since Spectrum is one of its favorite moves. Fortunately, none of its spells are particularly strong, and it lacks the AI to choose the best element to circumvent the party's resistances. Its own resistances are relatively sparse, with numerous easily-exploited elemental weaknesses amplified by below-average Evade and no resistance to damage-boosting status effects; it's also hideously weak to Stun and Freeze, allowing an appropriately-armed party to leave it helpless while they focus on other foes. Multi-target weapon-elemental skills with the appropriate weapons or Flairs (such as Arrow Rain with the Thor's Hammer or Swift Slash with the Book of Spells) have the advantage of circumventing any Lovable the Gloop manages to inflict on itself; on the other hand, wearing it down with ailments and debuffs is inadvisable, since it can easily cure them with its defensive move.

Like most "spellcaster" foes, the Fabulous Gloop is crippled by Syphon and Berserk, either of which locks it into its physical moves (and potentially turns their on-hit Invisibility into an advantage for the party). Since it has a good amount of Syphon resistance, Berserk may be more efficient, especially since its physical attacks aren't particularly strong even with the boost; if Raging Force isn't an option, using Tree-scaring equipment like The Chopper or the Oak Staff can apply the status without the party lifting a finger. Maintaining these status effects also makes other ailments and stat debuffs more viable, since the Gloop loses the ability to cleanse itself as long as it's Syphoned or Berserk - this is especially helpful for Capturing attempts.

The Fabulous Gloop is weak to Fire, Ice, Thunder, and especially Holy; on the other hand, it resists Earth and Bio while absorbing Dark. In terms of status effects, it resists Syphon but is extremely vulnerable to Burn, Scorch, Stun, Chill, and Freeze. With "More Foe Resistance" active, it loses its weaknesses to Holy and status effects while becoming resistant to Water and having its Defence and Magic Defence debuffed.

Battle Logic

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Surrender;
  • If Syphoned or Berserked → Hit*;
  • If the Fabulous Gloop has Lovable or Regen → Hit* (4/20), Spectrum (8/20), Fireball (1/20), Iceshard (1/20), Thunderbolt (1/20), Toxic (1/20), Whirlwind (1/20), Whirlpool (1/20), Holy Light (1/20), Gaia Bloom (1/20);
  • Otherwise → Hit* (16/80), Defend (16/80), Spectrum (24/80), Fireball (3/80), Iceshard (3/80), Thunderbolt (3/80), Toxic (3/80), Whirlwind (3/80), Whirlpool (3/80), Holy Light (3/80), Gaia Bloom (3/80).

* Hit becomes Arm Flail when <49% HP.

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 25%;
    • If Syphoned → Defend;
    • Otherwise → Spectrum (8/16), Fireball (1/16), Iceshard (1/16), Thunderbolt (1/16), Toxic (1/16), Whirlwind (1/16), Whirlpool (1/16), Holy Light (1/16), Gaia Bloom (1/16).

Additionally, if any front line player has equipment that scares Trees, the Fabulous Gloop will inflict
2x Berserk on themselves at the start of their turn (this does not take up their action).

Summon

The Fabulous Gloop can be captured and used as a summon. It changes the weather to Cherry Blossom for five turns, giving everyone (player and foe alike) a chance to gain Haste between turns. It's the only way for the players to manually cause the Cherry Blossom weather (prior to the v2 update, the Cat Ninja summon had this effect instead), which makes it particularly useful in combination with the "Weather Storage" exploit.

Trivia

  • While otherwise unrelated, the Fabulous Gloop is thematically similar to the Rainbloom from Epic Battle Fantasy 4. Both are colorful plant-based foes with a wide variety of single-target elemental spells, both are severely hampered by Syphon or Berserk, and both were introduced in updates to the base version of their respective games. The Fabulous Gloop's moveset even includes most of the Rainbloom's spells, with the only difference being Whirlpool instead of Bubbles.
