The Cat Ninja is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. They can be found stealthily lounging about the Mystic Woods and surrounding areas accompanied by other cats.

Appearance

The Cat Ninja is a small, fluffy limbless cat. It wears a black headband with a golden plate at the front, and wields a blade and a shuriken as weapons. The former can be either a small katana (similar to the Honjo Masamune) or a black kunai with a brown handle; the latter can be a silver shuriken with eight straight points (similar to the Shuriken item) or a black shuriken with four curved blades.

Overview

Unlike most Cats, the Cat Ninja doesn't have a shield to increase its defenses; instead, its shuriken is used for a one-time attack early into the battle. It will throw its shuriken in the first two turns of battle, and can Defend itself to apply Morale (as well as Brave on higher difficulty levels). The shuriken attack can be prevented entirely by hitting the Cat Ninja with a powerful blow.

Once the Cat Ninja has lost its shuriken, it uses Earth, Bio, and non-elemental attacks that can inflict Poison or Stagger. It can also throw a non-damaging smoke bomb that inflicts Shroud; this skill is literally unavoidable, ignoring both Evade and Bless. It uses skills with higher base power than most Cats, but has lower offensive stats. It also has a high chance to focus on the player with the lowest HP, allowing it to pick off weakened party members.

Although the Cat Ninja's great Evade can make it tough to hit, it has low HP and no resistances whatsoever (even with "More Foe Resistance" enabled). It is weak to Fire, Thunder, Water, and especially Bio; with More Foe Resistance, it has a mild weakness to Water and Bio.

Battle Logic

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Surrender;
  • If Syphoned and it lost its Shuriken, or Berserked → Backstab;
  • If it lost its Shuriken → Backstab (3/6), Smoke Puff (1/6), Bamboo (1/6), Log (1/6);
  • If it used Defend on the last turn → Shuriken;
  • Otherwise → Defend (1/2), Shuriken (1/2).

Additionally, the Cat Ninja has a 75% chance to target the most damaged player with its attacks.

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 100% → Backstab.

Summon

The foe can be captured to be used as a summon. It essentially has the same effect as the Encore skill.
