Cactus is a recurring crafting item in the Epic Battle Fantasy series, introduced in Epic Battle Fantasy 3. It is a piece of a green succulent covered in small thorns; it appears to have been cut or broken off of the main plant, leaving a circular hole on one side. It is used for forging mostly Earth- and Bio-related equipment.
In all three games, Cacti can be bought in any Material Shop, although the price and amount needed for forging varies between installments.
In EBF3, a Cactus costs 440 gold, and it is only sold in The Town after it has been found elsewhere (i.e. from a foe or a chest). 27 will be needed for all of the relevant upgrades, almost half of which are needed for the Destroyer.
In EBF4, it costs 420 gold to buy a Cactus, and 34 are needed to upgrade everything. Most of that amount will go towards forging the Venom Badge.
EBF5 updates the Cactus's appearance and reduces its purchase price to 170 gold; to upgrade everything, 69 are required.
Drop Rate
Cacti are mostly dropped by plant-themed foes, particularly ones with prominent spikes or thorns on their bodies.

Trivia
