The Destroyer is a Poison-elemental gun available for Lance in Epic Battle Fantasy 3 and 4.

Description

The Destroyer is a metallic gun predominantly colored three shades of pale green. The top half of the gun is the lightest shade, with brown-green lines painted on it to create a camouflage pattern. The lower half is a medium shade of green, with a pale white "X" painted near the stock. The front part of the gun is the darkest shade of green, with two silver gun barrels and a strange, crescent-shaped hand grip that's almost as long as the gun is tall; based on its placement, the gun is meant to be mounted on the shoulder. More green protrusions are visible along the top half of the gun; their purpose is unknown.

In both appearances, the Destroyer boosts both offenses and Accuracy, while having abilities that focus on inflicting Poison damage, either directly or by applying Poison status. It also resists the Poison element, although it won't be immune at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3

The Destroyer has above-average Attack along with a poor Magic Attack boost and a modest Accuracy bonus. It is Lance's only weapon capable of inflicting the Poison status effect; while it only inflicts a single turn of Poison per shot, it has a guaranteed chance of doing so on foes that do not resist it. This makes it a very useful piece of equipment when one is willing to spam Unload or its Unleash to rapidly pile on Poison; unfortunately, its physical focus means that it's a poor weapon for Lance once the Poison stacking is complete. Because of Poison's mechanics in EBF3, one may wish to have Lance use the Destroyer's Unleash twice on the relevant target(s), then switch to a more appropriate gun for the battle.

The Destroyer strongly resists the Poison element and slightly resists Earth, but neither becomes an immunity at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

The Destroyer gives an average boost to Attack and Magic Attack, as well as small bonuses to Accuracy and Evade. Its weapon-elemental skills have a decent chance to inflict Poison and unleash Bamboo Trap, the latter of which benefits from its elemental boost.

Between the Unload nerf, the loss of Unleash, and the changes to Poison's mechanics, the Destroyer's old tactic of Poison stacking has become significantly less viable in EBF4; if you need Lance to poison things, it's probably better to cast Poison Gas a few times and use a stronger weapon. On the other hand, the Destroyer is a perfectly viable Poison-based offensive weapon, especially in the Steam version where Lance can learn Acid; however, the Steam version also has the Exterminator, which provides stiff competition as a Poison-based weapon for Lance (although it's also available much later in the game).

The Destroyer resists Poison (both the element and the status effect). It becomes immune to the latter at Level 5.

Trivia

  • Since the Destroyer mainly uses a massive amount of plants and fungi for its forging requirements (as well as 48 separate colonies of viruses in EBF4), its poisons may be purely organic.
  • The Destroyer has a similar name and element to the Exterminator, as well as a few design resemblances (white markings painted on the side, twin silver barrels and thin metal protrusions).
