Amethyst Golem

The Amethyst Golem is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is usually found in the Forgotten Ruins.

Appearance

The Amethyst Golem is a vaguely humanoid monster made predominantly of white stone (probably marble, considering its resemblance to the body of a Marble Boulder). Its arm blades are silver and slightly curved, with a small notch on each side of the blade. Its body is dotted with brown stones, most notably serving as toes, shoulder spikes, and the bases of its arm blades. Small Amethyst crystals serve as the joints of its limbs, with four more set in its "face" like eyes. The Golem also has small, luminous purple markings on parts of its body, most notable around its "eyes" and at the centers of its arm blades.

Overview

Aside from powerful non-elemental stab attacks and a randomly-targeting rock shard skill that's slightly Earth-based, all of the Amethyst Golem's skills are at least partially Wind-elemental. Many of its attacks hit multiple times and inflict annoying status effects like Disable, Stagger, Light, and Magic Defence debuffs. Its magic attacks are far weaker than its physical attacks, but they compensate by hitting the entire party at once and having a high chance of applying Syphon or Confuse, either of which can easily ruin the player's strategy. Some of its skills also summon an Amethyst Ore to assist it.

Syphon and Berserk will lock the Amethyst Golem out of its Wind attacks, but this will provoke it to use its most damaging physical attacks instead; Berserk in particular will force it to spam its 6x Hit, which can easily cut through a player's HP. However, using a Target tank with high Defence and/or Invisible status can draw in and negate the assault, making Berserk a relatively safe means of neutralizing the Amethyst Golem (as long as there aren't any other foes around to use up the Invisible stacks). On the other hand, extremely high resistance to Wind and the Amethyst Golem's most dangerous status effects can help the party deal with it more easily.

The Amethyst Golem is weak to Bomb and especially Dark, but most other elements are ineffective against it. It absorbs Earth and Holy, neutralizes Wind, and resists all other elements. It is also immune to Poison and Virus, strongly resists Stun, Doom, and Instant Death, and slightly resists all stat debuffs except for HP. It also has high Magic Defence and below-average Evade, so physical attacks are the best option against it.

If the "More Foe Resistance" Challenge is enabled, the Amethyst Golem becomes neutral to Dark and all of its 50% elemental resistances become a full immunity. It also becomes immune to Stun, Chill, and Freeze, while its resistance to Attack and Defence debuffs greatly increases.

The Amethyst Golem is notable as the best foe for Silver Plate farming; its drop rate is almost three times higher than that of the next best option (the Demon Mirror), and it can potentially drop two at a time. It's also guaranteed to drop two Steel Plates when beaten (a trait only shared with the War Mammoth), and has a very small chance to drop a Diamond as well.

Summon

The Amethyst Golem can be captured and used as a summon. It uses a modified version of Flying Chunks to hit all foes seven times, inflicting non-elemental physical damage with higher-than-average Accuracy. The last hit is stronger than the first six and has a small chance to inflict Stagger.
