The Origami Wraith is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5 introduced in the v2 update. It is found in the Greenwood Library.

Appearance

The Origami Wraith is a ghostly entity wearing a ragged red cloak that obscures all of its features aside from its glowing green eyes. The hood and sleeves have lighter red trim with thin yellow accents, with four horns made of white paper with red tips sticking out of the former.

Overview

As its name suggests, the Origami Wraith mainly attacks with weaponized papercraft, giving it several non-elemental physical skills. It also has a Fire-based physical skill and the Dark-based magic attack used by all Wraiths. Its skills can Syphon, Dispel, Dry, and even Doom their target, but its only multi-target attack has no associated status effect. On higher difficulty levels, Double Stab and Fire Bash gain much higher status infliction chances, and the Doom timer on Dark Swoop is half as long.

The Origami Wraith's most annoying attack is probably Paper Storm; it's guaranteed to Dispel a non-resistant target, it ignores Target and Lovable, and it will always be aimed where it'll cause the most trouble (i.e. the most buffed player), It's also smart enough to stick to physical attacks if its target is Enchanted, letting it work well with Book Worm support. Syphon and Berserk will prevent its Dispelling and Dooming antics; the former forces it to use Double Stab and Fire Bash, while the latter makes it spam Paper Planes Volley.

The Origami Wraith has high Evade and above-average Accuracy, but its HP is on the low side and its only resistances are a Holy absorption and an immunity to a few status effects: Doom, Instant Death, Bad Luck, and the stat-debuffing ailments. On the other hand, it takes extra damage from Water, Fire and Dark, in addition to the standard Wraith weakness to Wind. Its elemental weaknesses are further accentuated with massive vulnerabilities to Burn, Scorch, Dry, and Light.

With "More Foe Resistance" active, the Origami Wraith becomes immune to Syphon, resistant to Fire, Thunder, and Ice, and less vulnerable to Water and Wind. It also becomes somewhat resistant to having its offenses and defenses debuffed.

Battle Logic

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • If Syphoned, catch score >55, and all players are Lovable → Flee;
  • If Syphoned → Double Stab (1/2), Fire Bash (1/2);
  • If Berserked, or catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Paper Planes Volley;
  • Otherwise → Paper Planes Volley (1/4), Paper Storm (1/4);
    • If selected target is Enchanted → Double Stab (1/2), Fire Bash (1/2);
    • Otherwise → Dark Swoop (2/8), Double Stab (1/8), Fire Bash (1/8).

*Paper Storm always targets the best Dispel target based on player buffs, ignoring Lovable and Target.

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 25% and not Syphoned → Paper Storm.

Additionally, if any front line player has equipment that scares Ghosts, the Origami Wraith will inflict 1x Berserk on themselves at the start of their turn (this does not take up their action).

Summon

The Origami Wraith can be captured and used as a summon; it can also be called between turns by the Alt Paper Fan and the Alt Summer Kimono. It casts an empowered version of Paper Storm on the target, dealing physical non-elemental damage with a high chance to Dispel their buffs.
