Mutant Chomper

The Mutant Chomper is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It tends to be found in The Rapture.

Appearance

The Mutant Chomper is a hideous caricature of a Chomper that may well be from another planet. Its main body is a fleshy red tentacle dotted with smaller tendrils and dull pink speckles. A knot is formed in the middle of the tentacle, supporting a large grey mouth with dull pinkish teeth and a long blue tongue; stranger still, the center of the upper jaw is missing, leaving a large hole. A mass of irregular brown tendrils or "leaves" protrudes from the other side of the knot, and a single red eye is placed at the upper end of the tentacle.

Overview

The Mutant Chomper is a master of attrition. Its attacks can inflict Poison, Virus, and Burn, and debuff both defenses and Evade. On harder difficulties, if the player attempts to sidestep this through giving each player Bio resistance, it will substitute some of its attacks for Gravity Surge, giving it a more diverse offense. To top it off, the Mutant Chomper can also heal itself with its signature Chomp.

Between its various status effects, healing ability and notable offensive power, the Mutant Chomper is a dangerous foe that should be taken out quickly. If coupled with stronger foes, it can make the party much more vulnerable; even alone or supported by weaker enemies, it still is a mid-level threat.

Mutant Chompers absorb Bio, and resist Thunder, Ice, Water and Dark. However, they are weak to Fire, Holy and especially Earth. Cataclysm and Lumber are the most effective options against it, but Judgement, Divine Divide and Bullet Hell do quite nicely.

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

The Mutant Chomper was originally supposed to have a 33% chance to counter with either Alien Root or Tentacles when Counter-Attacking Foes was enabled, but due to an oversight this counter cannot actually trigger.

Summon

The foe can be captured to be used as a summon.
