The Diamond Golem is an optional boss encountered in Epic Battle Fantasy 4. It's a stronger version of the Crystal Golem and is fought on Battle Mountain — as such, it is exclusive to the Steam release of the game and the post-Battle Mountain update version of the Premium Pack.

Appearance

The Diamond Golem appears similar to the Crystal Golem, being a quadrupedal stone beast with large forelimbs and spiky crystals all over its body. However, the rocks making up its body have a more refined appearance, and its crystals are all white diamonds — as a result, it appears more cohesive than its weaker counterpart. The round crystal in its main body has been replaced by a massive diamond that protrudes from its back, and its "eyes" are larger and pointier than before. Its forelimbs have two small diamonds acting as claws, and their sides are marked with diamond-shaped engravings. According to one of its "quotes", the Diamond Golem is the result of a blessing from Godcat.

Unlike all the bosses in the v3 update of EBF4, the Diamond Golem and its Overworld counterpart notably does not have any personal dialogue, but has its actions dictated in the quote box.

Overview

The Diamond Golem is a Holy-themed foe with a variety of deadly attacks; luckily, most of them are single-target. Unlike its weaker counterpart, it does not change elements when hit, giving it consistent weaknesses and resistances. It has higher-than-average Accuracy and great base offenses, allowing it to consistently hammer the party with powerful blows; on the other hand, its below-average Evade makes it easier to hit in turn.

The Diamond Golem has several elements to work with: it mainly uses Holy skills, but it can also inflict Fire, Ice, Thunder, and Earth damage. It can inflict Stagger, Burn, and Defence debuffs, but the main concerns will be Weaken and Syphon; some of its attacks can apply nine stacks of these statuses with a very high infliction rate. Most of its skills are physical, but it has Judgement as a lethal magical option that has even higher Accuracy than the rest of its moves. When badly damaged, it will replace Judgement with its only multi-target skill: Genesis, which hits the whole front line for strong magical Holy damage and a fair chance of Weaken. Fortunately, this doesn't give the Golem and its Bits Auto-Revive; unfortunately, it gives them Defend to make them more resistant to damage, and the Golem will outright spam Genesis when its HP is almost depleted.

Much like the Crystal Golem, the Diamond Golem has a steady stream of Bits acting as reinforcements. It begins the battle with one of each type and will summon a new Bit every turn if space becomes available; unlike the Crystal Golem, it can summon any type of Bit with any attack. After losing half of its HP, it will start summoning two Bits at a time, with one of them always being a Diamond Bit.

The Diamond Golem has an impressive array of resistances: it resists Fire, Ice, Thunder, and all stat debuffs, nullifies Bio, Wind, Burn, Freeze, Stun, Poison, Syphon, Doom, and Instant Death, and absorbs Earth and Holy. On the other hand, it's weak to Bomb, Water, and Dark while being massively vulnerable to Curse and having no resistance to Wet, Stagger, Weaken, Tired, and Dispel.

Enabling "More Foe Resistance" switches the Diamond Golem's Ice and Water affinities; it becomes weak to the former and resistant to the latter. Additionally, its Bomb weakness is lessened, it gains a Stagger resistance, and it becomes immune to Tired and Defence debuffs.

Defeating the Diamond Golem on Epic difficulty will reward the player with the "Die For Diamonds" medal.

Battle Logic

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

  • >32% HP → Kick (4/16), Tail Stab (4/16), Fire Crystals (1/16), Icicles (1/16), Big Spark (1/16), Stalactite (1/16), Judgement (4/16);
  • ≤32% to ≥9% HP → Same as before, but Judgement is replaced by Genesis;
  • <9% HP → Genesis only.

Passively summons a random Bit each turn, choosing between a Fire Bit, an Ice Bit, a Thunder Bit and a Diamond Bit. When below 49% HP, also passively summons a Diamond Bit each turn, which stacks with the previous point for 2 Bits per turn.

Strategy

Equipment

The Diamond Golem and its Bits have a wide repertoire of elemental attacks at their disposal; however, the vast majority of them are physical and single-target, with some of them being able to inflict status problems. The Golem's two magical attacks, Judgement and Genesis, are fully Holy-elemental, and can be made much less dangerous by proper resistances; for everything else, Attack debuffing and high Defence is the way to go. The Bits can be blocked easily with Syphon, removing the need to worry about their attacks and support abilities.

Bomb, Water, and Dark are the best options for taking down the Diamond Golem. You may also want to consider equipping someone with the Peace Sticker flair in order to Weaken the boss, which serves two purposes. Offensively, it increases the damage of your Dark attacks — combined with its Dark weakness, it'll cut through its HP quite efficiently. Defensively, it'll wear down the boss's offenses and make its attacks easier to endure.

Battle

Make sure to maintain Syphon on the Bits to render them completely useless and prevent the Diamond Golem from summoning more of them. The Syphon skill is highly recommended for this; it affects all of the Bits and has a high success rate.

As long as you have adequate resistance and/or debuffs stacked on it, the Diamond Golem is initially quite easy due to its lack of multi-target attacks; keep in mind that it hits very hard, even if it can only hit one player at a time. However, when dropped to a third of its initial health, it'll begin using Genesis instead of Judgement, dealing a lot of pure Holy damage to all players — make sure to resist or outright nullify it. When taken below 9% health, it'll do nothing but cast Genesis each turn. With enough Holy resistance, Genesis can be ignored, making this part of the fight even easier than it was at the beginning, as the Golem simply won't be able to damage the party at all. Alternatively, bashing it with strong Limit Breaks shortly before this stage of the fight may result in skipping the stage completely.


Summon

The Diamond Golem was one of the new summons added with the v3 update. It can be acquired from a chest in the Battle Mountain, specifically in the same screen as the Diamond Golem itself. When summoned, the Diamond Golem will fully revive all dead players, while granting living players multiple turns of Auto-Revive.
