The Wooden Idol is a foe in Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5; it's also a summon in the latter. It is typically found in forested areas, such as Greenwood Village, Lankyroot Jungle, Ashwood Forest, the Mystic Woods, and the Wild Tropics. In EBF5's Foe Remix Custom Game, a Wooden Idol also appears as backup for NoLegs's boss fight in Hope Harbor.

Appearance

The Wooden Idol is a small golem made of a chunk of log, with small twigs or chips of wood acting as limbs and holes carved into its front surface to act as facial features. It has three visual variants:

1. Made of a quarter-slice of a log, with small wood-chip limbs and two holes carved into the bark to act as eyes; the left eye is slightly larger than the right. In EBF5, it also has a green leaf on the upper-left corner of its body and a simple smiling mouth formed from three small strips carved into the bark under its eyes.
2. Made of a round slice of a log with five short twigs sticking out of the sides; two act as legs, two act as arms, and the topmost one has a small green leaf on it, slightly resembling a topknot or small ponytail. It has two small, roughly equally-sized eye holes and a wide, straight mouth.
3. Made of a half-slice of a log, with two small twigs for arms and a pair of thicker wood chunks for legs. Its face consists of three holes: a small left eye, a large right eye, and a triangular mouth. Its facial proportions were altered slightly for EBF5, which also adds a small green leaf to its upper edge.

Overview

Befitting its early appearance in its games, the Wooden Idol is a very weak foe with a smattering of basic physical attacks. Some of its moves are partially Earth-based, and it typically has the ability to cast Log for marginally higher damage and a decent chance of Stagger. Its Evade is a little higher than normal, but this is almost entirely negligible, especially given its low HP and plethora of weaknesses.

The Wooden Idol's only resistance is Earth and it's exceedingly vulnerable to a number of elements and status effects, with Fire and Dark being its most serious weaknesses.

Battle Logic

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

• Berserked or/and Syphoned → Flick;
• Otherwise → Flick (1/3), Jump (1/3), Log (1/3).

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

Action

• If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Surrender;
• If Syphoned → Hit (1/2), Idol Stack (1/2);
• If Berserked → Log;
• If playing on Hard/Epic → Hit (1/3), Idol Stack (1/3), Log (1/3);
• Otherwise → Hit (1/2), Idol Stack (1/2).

Before the v2 update, its Berserk behaviour had priority over its Syphon behaviour.

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

• 33% and not Syphoned → Log.

Additionally, if any front line player has equipment that scares Trees, the Wood Idol will simply Surrender on their turn.

Summon

In EBF5, the Wooden Idol can be captured and used as a summon; it can also be called between turns by the Leaf Shield. It gives three stacks of Bless to the entire party.
