Sandstone Boulder
The Sandstone Boulder is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is often found along the coast of Hope Harbor.
Appearance
The Sandstone Boulder is a stout golem made of warm brown sandstone, with stubby legs and proportionally large arms carved to resemble mitten-like hands. Its face is formed of five yellow gems; two large ones acting as eyes and three small ones denoting a mouth. The top of its body is mostly covered in light brown sand, with a few smaller rocks embedded in it and a small amount dribbling down the side of its face. A smaller patch of sand is visible on its left arm.
For some of its attacks, the Sandstone Boulder uses a large ball of compressed sand with some brown stones, a pair of pointed white bones, and a small green cactus embedded in it.
Overview
The Sandstone Boulder is a straightforward foe with a variety of physical Earth attacks; depending on the move, they can be pure elemental or as low as 25% elemental. Its most notable attacks are Sand, (has a good chance to debuff the victim's Accuracy), Big Leap (does decent damage and has a small Stagger chance in exchange for being rather inaccurate), and Sand Bowling (hits the backup players in addition to a member of the front line). Its debilitation abilities become stronger on higher difficulty levels; not only does Big Leap have a better Stagger chance, its other moves gain the ability to inflict Accuracy debuffs, Stagger, and even Dry. The latter does nothing for the Sandstone Boulder itself, but be mindful of other foes with Fire and Bomb attacks to exploit the status.
Earth resistance and Defence buffs will prove most effective at reducing the Sandstone Boulder's damage output. Notably, Berserk limits it to Sand Bowling, which can be completely negated by 100% Earth resistance; however, it may be difficult to protect the entire party, given its ability to hit backup players. On the other hand, Syphon forces it to use its basic Arm Swinging and Bump attacks; while they're harder to resist due to a low elemental degree, they also have lower status chances than its other moves. Its Accuracy debuffs can be annoying (particularly if paired with evasive foes or ones that can apply Tired), but its own below-average Evade mitigates the benefits to itself. Its weaknesses are conducive to Freeze combos, allowing the party to immobilize it or set it up for a big hit while dealing good damage in the process.
The Sandstone Boulder resists Fire, Thunder, Earth, Bio, and Wind while being weak to Water, Bomb, and especially Ice. It's also immune to Poison and Virus while being resistant to Stun, Doom, and Instant Death. With "More Foe Resistance", it becomes immune to Earth, Bio, and Wind, neutral to Bomb and Water, and fairly resistant to Defence and Magic Defence debuffs.

Battle Logic
The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.
Action
- If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Surrender;
- If Syphoned → Arm Swinging (1/2), Bump (1/2);
- If Berserked → Sand Bowling;
- Otherwise → Arm Swinging (1/6), Bump (1/6), Sand (1/6), Big Leap (1/6), Sand Boulder (1/6), Sand Bowling (1/6).
Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)
- 33% and not Syphoned → Sand.
Summon
The Sandstone Boulder can be captured and used as a summon. It uses its Big Leap on one foe, dealing physical Earth damage - compared to the foe's version of the attack, it has higher Accuracy, more power, and a stronger elemental degree, but lacks the ability to Stagger the target.

Notes
- According to Matt, the sand balls the Sandstone Boulder throws are not made of sand, but something referred to as "sticky pudding stuff". This is consistent with the "sand" on the Boulder's head, which seems to be dripping down in a way inconsistent with regular sand.
