Furry Slime

From Epic Battle Fantasy Wiki
Jump to navigation Jump to search

The Furry Slime is a recurring foe in the Epic Battle Fantasy series, introduced in the first Epic Battle Fantasy. It is mostly found in forested areas, such as the early stages of EBF1, Vegetable Forest (in Epic Battle Fantasy 3) and Ashwood Forest (in Epic Battle Fantasy 4). In Epic Battle Fantasy 5, it is one of the Classic foes fought in the Data Bunker's EBF1 simulations.

Appearance

Unlike other Slimes, Furry Slimes are not based on their surroundings, but are instead the result of Slimes breeding with various mammals (the details of this interaction are best left unknown). Their appearance is similar to other Slimes, but with various elements "inherited" from other animals, such as ears and a tail. Depending on the game, they may appear to be covered in fur or made of translucent slime; in the latter case, a pink heart can sometimes be seen within their bodies.

The Furry Slime has several cosmetic variants depending on the game. In EBF1, EBF3, and EBF5, its possible variations include:

  1. A blue cat (very similar to NoLegs) wearing a pointed yellow hat with a red stripe.
  2. An orange fox with a white tip to its tail.
  3. A brown wolf with an open mouth full of fangs.
  4. A dark grey mouse with a wedge of yellow cheese on its head.
  5. A white Slime Bunny with a carrot on its head.

In EBF4, the Furry Slime received a graphical rework and new variations:

  1. An orange fox with a brown maple leaf on its head.
  2. A black wolf with a white bone on its head.
  3. A light grey mouse with a wedge of yellow cheese on its head.
  4. A brown bunny with a white-spotted red mushroom on its head.

Overview

The Furry Slime is probably one of the most simplistic foes in the entire Epic Battle Fantasy series. It only uses basic jumping attacks to deal non-elemental physical damage to a single player, with no special effects to worry about (except in EBF4). It's also burdened with poor stats and few (if any) resistances, allowing it to be killed with ease.

Epic Battle Fantasy

The Furry Slime is notable as the very first foe battled in a proper Epic Battle Fantasy game, acting as little more than a living punching bag. It's not harmless, but its jumping attacks deal very little damage, especially if Protect is active. It has no weaknesses or resistances, allowing players to try out Matt and Natalie's various abilities for a few waves before a more challenging opponent arrives.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3

As its Bestiary entry notes, the Furry Slime is a slightly stronger version of the Green Slime...which isn't really saying much. It has the same non-elemental physical attacks, but with a little more power; on the other hand, its Jump and Back attack has a normal critical hit rate and can't Poison its victim. Defensively, its higher Evade makes it a little harder to hit, and it has some different weaknesses; however, it's still a minor threat that can be left alone until more dangerous enemies are dealt with.

The Furry Slime slightly resists Water while being weak to Fire, Dark, and Bio. It's also extremely vulnerable to Poison, Doom, and Instant Death.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

At first glance, the Furry Slime is an inconsequential foe with single-target non-elemental physical attacks. However, one of its attacks has a small chance to inflict Slimed on its target; this blocks the affected player from taking turns, doubles damage taken, and can't be cured, putting them at an extreme disadvantage for a while. Luckily, the infliction chance is very low, even on Hard or Epic difficulty, and the Furry Slime's poor stats make it easy to kill before it even takes a turn.

The Furry Slime resists Earth and Ice, but is weak to Fire, Dark, and Bio; additionally, it's very susceptible to Burn, Doom, and Instant Death. It becomes neutral to Dark and Fire if "More Foe Resistance" is enabled.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

As a Classic foe fought in a late-game optional area, the EBF5 Furry Slime is tougher than ever...relatively speaking. Being based on its debut appearance in EBF1, it has enormous base Accuracy and literally no Evade, guaranteeing that both it and the players' attacks will always find their marks. Like all Classic foes, it also ignores Lovable status.

Fortunately for the players, the Furry Slime only has two non-elemental physical attacks that hit a single target and have no special effects; this makes it a low-level threat despite its gimmicks. Additionally, it's still vulnerable to Stun and Instant Death, giving the party means to quickly incapacitate or dispose of it entirely.

The Furry Slime has no elemental weaknesses or resistances, but its status resistances are quite extensive. It is immune to Burn, Scorch, Chill, Freeze, Bad Luck, Curse, Weaken, Tired, Stagger, Wet, Dry, Light, Heavy, Invisible and Enchanted; it also has a good resistance to all stat debuffs besides HP. "More Foe Resistance" gives it a slight resistance to all elements, making non-elemental attacks the only option for dealing full damage - luckily, the resistances aren't very high, so even pure elemental attacks will still deal a decent amount of damage.

Summon

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

The Furry Slime can be captured and used as a summon. It uses Jump and Dissolve on the targeted foe, dealing incredibly low non-elemental physical damage.

The Furry Slime has the distinction of being the second-lowest power of any attack summon (only the Water Slime is weaker). While it may be useful for weakening foes into a capturable state - especially foes who resist Water - it is hampered by its late availability compared to other low-power summons. In most cases, Bow Whack is a superior option for the Furry Slime's uses.
