The Devil's Fork is a fire-elemental sword available to Matt in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is currently exclusive to the paid Steam release of the game and the outdated free Battle Demo.

Description

The Devil's Fork is a metal trident with a brown shaft and a black arrowhead pommel. The other side of the staff has a black head with three large tines, two downward-slanting spikes below the main head, and several small orange pieces alternating with fragments of black metal. A Lava Slime is impaled on the tines, with a large crack on its left side and an understandably distressed expression.

Normal

Although it can power up Fire skills, the Devil's Fork is a support weapon first and foremost. It has unusual stats for a sword; it has great Magic Attack and a small HP bonus, but it's tied with the Crimson Razorback for the lowest Attack boost of any sword. Its main Equipment Effects increase the effect of buffs and enable Matt to inflict Dry with Weapon-elemental skills; these skills can also unleash Black Spikes for additional Dark damage (which won't consume Dry stacks). Additionally, it will cause smaller Slimes to Surrender and bigger ones to go Berserk, which may happen to be useful at times (amusingly, including the final wave of the Monster Marathon in the Temple of Trials).

The Devil's Fork is a fine weapon for Matt's support build; he has a good skill set for the role, and Dry infliction is relatively uncommon among player equipment. It's great for setting up the likes of Heavy Claw Lance or Honjo Masamune NoLegs, but the Love Blade is generally superior for a pure buff build, due to its superior bulk. Additionally, Natalie's Obsidian Staff can apply Dry and Invisible with its weapon-elemental skills; for physical offense, similar results can be achieved by combining the Elder's Wisdom with the Amethyst Earrings.

The Devil's Fork resists Fire, Ice and Dark. None of these become an immunity at Level 5.

Equip Remix

Instead of helping Matt to support the party, the Alt Devil's Fork calls in support for them. It has below-average amounts of Attack and Magic Attack, but its HP boost is only second to the impractical Alt Soul Eater and it becomes immune to three elements when fully forged. It is most notable for being able to summon a Slime Mouse, a Slime Bunny, or a Big Lava Slime between turns, providing sources of Stun, Regen, and decent Fire damage with a strong Burn effect.

While the Alt Devil's Fork has decent bulk and useful resistances (such as against Sól and Skadi or as part of a Virus party), its offensive summons only target a single random foe, making them less reliable than they may sound. Its Slime Bunny auto-summon is almost always useful, but it has the lowest priority of the weapon's summons and its trigger chance is on the low side. Ultimately, it is less useful than Matt's other support options, most notably the Alt Dragon's Feather.

The Alt Devil's Fork resists Fire, Ice and Bio, becoming immune to all of them at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

The Devil's Fork is found inside a chest in the eastern half of the Freezeflame Dungeon, in front of a statue on a small island in a magma lake. The chest is guarded by two battles; one appears as a Lava Slime, and the other appears as a Big Lava Slime.

Trivia

  • The Devil's Fork has aesthetic similarities to the Beholding Eye, both being predominantly black weapons with a small reddish creature impaled on the head.
  • The appearance and element of the Devil's Fork is likely a reference to the common depiction of demons with pitchforks in popular culture.
