―NoLegs,, Epic Battle Fantasy 5

The Big Icecream Slime is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is primarily found in the Frozen Valley.

Appearance

The Big Icecream Slime appears to be a large dollop of light blue ice cream with blue eyes, a cat-like smile, and a large ice cream sandwich embedded in its head. Like most Big Slimes, it is surrounded by a trio of smaller, similarly-colored blobs; each has a small wafer roll or cinnamon stick embedded in its top.

Despite appearances, the Big Icecream Slime is apparently inedible; according to its bestiary entry, pieces of its body will linger in the digestive tract for several years after being consumed.

Overview

The Big Icecream Slime uses the standard jumping tackles and Earth-shaking stomps of its brethren (the latter of which can inflict Stagger and summon Icecream Slime reinforcements) and can also cast Wafer for slightly higher multi-target damage, but its main tactic is immobilizing players with status effects. Its Leap attack has a decent chance to make the victim Hungry, forcing them to waste turns eating food, and one of its Ice spells can Chill the entire party, leaving them vulnerable to Freeze-inducing follow-ups. It has two options for Freezing players; Deep Freeze has a much higher chance of inflicting the status, but Icy Breath can hit the whole party at once, potentially immobilizing all of them unless they have good Freeze resistance. Its offensive stats are fairly high, but its attacks have low to moderate base power to balance it out.

The Big Icecream Slime is weak to Dark, Bomb, and especially Fire, while only resisting Wind and absorbing Ice. It has no resistances to status effects or stat debuffs, and is incredibly vulnerable to Instant Death, like most Slimes. With "More Foe Resistance", it loses the Dark and Bomb weaknesses, lessens its Fire weakness, and becomes immune to Wind, Earth, and having its defenses debuffed.

Unlike the other Big Slimes in EBF5, the Big Icecream Slime only drops Snowballs, making it nigh-useless to farm. That being said, it's easily the best source of Snowballs in the game, being guaranteed to drop five of them when defeated; combined with Matt's full stealing build, you can farm nine Snowballs from a single Big Icecream Slime.

Battle Logic

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • If Syphoned, catch score >55, and all players are Lovable → Ground Pound*;
  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Icy Breath (2/6), Ground Pound (2/6), Wafer (1/6), Sudden Frost (1/6);
  • If Syphoned or Berserked → Leap (1/2), Ground Pound* (1/2);
  • Otherwise → Leap (1/6), Deep Freeze (1/6), Icy Breath (1/6), Wafer (1/6), Sudden Frost (1/6), Ground Pound* (1/6).

* Ground Pound becomes Double Ground Pound when <49% HP.

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 100% and not Syphoned → Wafer (1/2), Sudden Frost (1/2).

Additionally, if any front line player has equipment that scares Slimes, the Big Icecream Slime will inflict 2x Berserk on themselves at the start of their turn (this does not take up their action).

Summon

The Big Icecream Slime can be captured and used as a summon; it can also be called between turns by the Alt Icecream Sandwich. It uses its Icy Breath to hit all foes for weak magical Ice damage, with an excellent chance of inflicting three stacks of Chill. In addition to boosting Ice and Water follow-ups or setting up Freeze combos, it has some capturing utility, being able to easily set up a Catch Rate-boosting Freeze when paired with a reliable source of Wet.

Trivia

  • Given that Icecream Slimes are bubblegum-flavored, the Big Icecream Slime's flavor text is a reference to an urban legend of how eating bubblegum will result in it remaining in your digestive tract for several years. This is not true, but the myth has persisted for decades.
