The Icecream Slime is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is primarily found in the Frozen Valley.

Appearance

The Icecream Slime is a basic Slime made of bubblegum ice cream; based on the Big Icecream Slime's Bestiary entry, it may be inedible. It has three cosmetic variants with drastically different appearances aside from the standard Slime face (two beady black eyes and a small, cat-like smile):

  1. A pink Icecream Slime with a stick of what appears to be chocolate to the right of a flat-bottom ice cream cone on top of its head.
  2. A minty green Icecream Slime with two thin sticks of chocolate on the left side of a triangular ice cream cone on its head.
  3. A pale blue Icecream Slime which lacks a cone on its head; instead, it has a large, rounded dollop of a white material (possibly whipped cream, snow, or more ice cream) with two chocolate sticks coming out from the top of it.

Overview

The Icecream Slime is a low-tier foe with weak single-target attacks; most are physical and only slightly elemental at best, save for its sole spell, which is pure Ice magic damage. It can inflict Confuse and Chill, but the former has a very low infliction chance and the latter isn't too problematic unless the Slime is paired with more powerful Ice or Water-based foes. Higher difficulty levels triple the Confuse chance on Spit while giving its jumping attacks a chance to inflict Hungry; these changes give it a decent amount of disruptive potential, but the chance of it inflicting Confuse and especially Hungry are still very low.

Although the Icecream Slime is easily dealt with and not particularly dangerous on its own, its status effects can considerably worsen a situation if it is paired with more powerful enemies; if paired with Wet or Freeze-capable allies, almost all of its attacks can effectively disable a party member for a turn or two. Syphon and Berserk will lock it into its basic jumping moves - even on Hard or Epic, the Hungry chance is almost negligibly low - but it's usually more efficient to just kill it outright. It absorbs Ice and resists Wind, but Bomb, Dark and especially Fire attacks will tear right through it; additionally, it's very vulnerable to Death and Doom.

"More Foe Resistance" reduces the Icecream Slime's Fire weakness while making it neutral to Bomb and Dark and resistant to Earth and Wind.

Battle Logic

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Surrender;
  • If Berserked → Jump & Back;
  • If Syphoned → Jump & Dissolve;
  • Otherwise → Jump & Back (1/5), Jump & Dissolve (1/5), Wafer (1/5), Sudden Frost (1/5), Spit (1/5).

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 100% and not Syphoned → Wafer (1/2), Sudden Frost (1/2).

Additionally, if any front line player has equipment that scares Slimes, the Icecream Slime will immediately Surrender and Flee on their turn.

Summon

The Icecream Slime can be captured and used as a summon. It casts Sudden Frost on the target, dealing light magical Ice damage with a good chance to inflict three stacks of Chill. While theoretically useful for Chill combos, the party will have several other options by the time it becomes available, allowing them to save their SP for other summons.

Trivia

  • After completing Izumi's quest in the Greenwood Village, three Icecream Slimes with 9,999,999 HP will appear in her map zone. These are very useful for the "10M Damage" medal.
    • These slimes are level 20, have 2 Hit2HP, and 100% resistance to Instant Death.
