Viking Fur
The Viking Fur is a recurring male armor available in Epic Battle Fantasy 3, 4 and 5. Its hat counterpart is the Horned Helmet, and its female equipment counterparts are the Fur Dress and the Fur Hat.
Description
As the name implies, the Viking Fur is a brown fur coat, with a lighter brown fur on the chest, near the shoes and on the edge of the sleeves. It also features a belt and a metallic-looking medal near the neck area.
In EBF5, the Viking Fur's buckles were moved from the sash to the belt, while its medal was moved to the top of the right shoulder. Snowshoe attachments also appear when worn by Matt or Lance, while NoLegs gets fur trim around the collar and hem of his coat.
The Viking Fur has balanced defenses in addition to an Attack increase, making it effective for a physically-offensive build. It can occasionally summon a powerful beast between turns, hitting a random foe for physical damage. Its resistances usually include Ice and Freeze, usually becoming immune to the latter at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 3
The Viking Fur provides a small Attack bonus and average boosts to Defence and Magic Defence; coupled with its resistances, it's quite a good defensive armor at the time it's acquired. When fully upgraded, it can drop a Tundra Mammoth on a random foe between turns, dealing decent damage. It's best suited for Matt, who can make better use of its Attack boost.
The Viking Fur strongly resists Wind, Ice, and Freeze, but does not become immune to any of them at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 4
The Viking Fur is a fairly bulky armor with decent Attack and great Defence and Magic Defence; however, it lowers Magic Attack by a significant amount. It also has a chance to drop a Wooly Mammoth on random foes between turns, with the chance increasing as it is forged. It should be worn by Matt, since Lance doesn't appreciate having his magic weakened.
The Viking Fur resists Water, Ice, and Freeze, becoming immune to the latter at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 5
Normal
With a fair amount of Attack, solid defenses, and a significant loss of Magic Attack, the Viking Fur is a good option for a physical tank build. It empowers Ice skills, improves the odds of capturing foes, and has a modest chance to summon a Brown Bear for added damage output (especially if the party is in dire straits).
The Viking Fur has particular synergy with Matt, who has less viable magic offense than Lance or NoLegs, as well as innate Ice skills to utilize its elemental boost. If used for capturing purposes, try not to bring in the wearer until the turn you attempt the capture: this removes the risk of the Brown Bear auto-summon killing the targeted foe if "No "Free" Attacks" isn't on.
The Viking Fur resists Water, Ice, Chill, and Freeze, becoming immune to the latter two at Level 5.
Equip Remix
The Alt Viking Fur is built for durability, with a little HP backing strong Defence and Magic Defence. While it lacks offensive stats, it improves the power of Water and Ice skills while increasing the chances of inflicting status effects. Matt can make the best use of its elemental boosts (especially with the Alt Sapphire Saint), but it's also an excellent addition to any of its potential wearers' status builds.
Compared to the Alt Flame Suit, the Alt Viking Fur won't be immune to any elements when fully upgraded and lacks a debuff boost, but it has a second elemental boost while lacking penalties to Accuracy and Evade; the latter is particularly appreciated by NoLegs. Otherwise, the armors are largely identical outside of resistances, which can be useful for strategies focused on Water damage and/or status infliction.
The Alt Viking Fur resists Water, Ice, Chill, and Freeze. The latter two become an immunity at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 3
The Viking Fur can be found in a chest in Glacier Valley, in the top-right corner of the dark ice cave. The chest is blocked by a battle that appears as a Frozen Eye.
