―Description, Epic Battle Fantasy 5

The Golden Axe is a Thunder-elemental "sword" available for Matt in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is currently exclusive to the paid Steam release of the game and the outdated free Battle Demo.

Description

The Golden Axe is a double-headed axe with a predominantly brown and gold color scheme. Its curved golden blades are adorned with a triangle marking of some sort, reminiscent of the Protect animation. Its handle is brown with two pieces of golden cloth (or maybe actual gold) threaded along its length. The top of the handle has a spike that separates the axe blades, and the pommel has a large spike on the tip and several smaller spikes around its base.

Normal

The Golden Axe is a balanced weapon that focuses turning luck in Matt's favor. It offers average Attack and a decent Magic Attack stat, along with a great HP boost only surpassed by the Love Blade. It has a high chance of giving Matt the Good Luck status (which becomes effectively permanent Good Luck at Level 5) and will apply several rounds of Bad Luck with its weapon-elemental attacks; combining these two effects provides a wealth of small bonuses and useful support for Doom-based strategies (such as with the Heartstopper). Its single-target weapon-elemental skills are also capable of unleashing Big Spark for additional physical damage and a means for Matt to exploit its boost to Thunder skills.

In comparison to the Lightning Shard, the Golden Axe provides a significantly stronger offense and defense along with a meaningful bonus skill. Its luck manipulation can also emulate the Lightning Shard's Accuracy boost, meaning that the only reason to use the Lightning Shard over the Golden Axe is for its Slicing Cyclone counter, which can be useful for spreading status conditions.

The Golden Axe provides resistance to Thunder, Dispel, Death and Doom. All but the Thunder resistance become an immunity at Level 5.

The Alt Golden Axe is a Holy-based weapon whose lustrous radiance can heal the sick and immobilize Matt's enemies with awe...or full-body paralysis. It provides good Attack for a minor loss of Evade, empowers Holy skills, and occasionally casts Purify between turns to heal the party's status ailments. Its weapon-elemental skills have a good chance to Stun foes for up to 2 turns, and its Slicing Cyclone counterattack gives it the means to hit an entire wave at once if Matt is attacked.

Overall, the Alt Golden Axe is mostly suited for a status build where Matt focuses on Stun-locking foes, since the effect can't be replicated by status-boosting Flairs. With two pieces of gear that increase the chance of landing status effects, its Slicing Cyclone is guaranteed to Stun non-resistant foes while Unleash will immobilize anything with up to 50% Stun resistance. Its main advantages over the Alt Love Blade (which has a status boost, identical Attack, and generally superior stats) are its slight utility potential (via auto-Purify), a much better on-hit effect, and superior multi-target status infliction via its counter.

The Alt Golden Axe resists Holy, Curse and Bad Luck, with the latter two becoming an immunity at Level 5. It also has a Dark weakness, which remains constant no matter its forging level.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

The Golden Axe is found inside a chest in the western room of the Deathly Hollows. The chest is the reward for solving the block puzzle.

Trivia

  • The Golden Axe is likely a reference to the eponymous weapon of the Golden Axe game series, given their similar shape and name.
  • Similar to the Lightning Shard, the Golden Axe's design is taken from an existing sword; in this case, a touched-up recolor of the Gaia Axe from Epic Battle Fantasy 3.
  • The Yellow Flybot has small triangular markings on its body resembling the symbols on the Golden Axe's blades. This is likely coincidental, but it's worth noting that both the foe and the weapon have similar color schemes and a Thunder affinity.
