The Yellow Clay is a foe that appears in Epic Battle Fantasy 4. It normally appears around Lankyroot Jungle.

Appearance

The Yellow Clay is a living statue resembling an armored humanoid. As per its name, it is made of hardened clay, with yellow on its arms, skirt, and belt buckle accenting the dull brown making up most of its body. Its helmet is bullet-shaped, with two horizontal spikes on the sides and a tan plate serving as a "face"; the latter is marked with a bright yellow "V"-shaped sigil. Its weapon of choice is a brown clay spear with a single-edged head.

Overview

The Yellow Clay is the Thunder-based member of its family, but it also has some non-elemental moves to work with. All of its moves are physical, single-target, and largely focused on pure damage; the only exception is its Jump skill, which has a pretty good chance to Dispel the victim while dealing partial Thunder damage. Its Evade is a little higher than the standard, but this will rarely be a significant problem.

Overall, the Yellow Clay is a fairly average foe that mainly stands out for its decent Dispelling abilities. Its Thunder attacks may catch the party off-guard in the mostly Earth, Bio, and Water-based Lankyroot Jungle, but they can be blocked by Syphon or Berserk; the former is preferable, as it can make decent use of the latter's power boost. Thunder resistance isn't as helpful as you might think; three of the Yellow Clay's attacks are non-elemental, Jump is only 50% elemental, and Spark has fairly low base power while also being only 80% elemental. On the other hand, debuffing its Attack and raising the party's Defence will severely hamper its damage output as long as it doesn't Dispel your buffs.

Killing a Yellow Clay isn't particularly difficult; aside from a Thunder absorption and a Bio immunity, it has no resistances of note. Earth and Bomb attacks will tear through its HP, but Water attacks are also more effective than normal while potentially inflicting Wet for follow-up Ice attacks. The latter strategy becomes more viable if "More Foe Resistance" is active, since the Yellow Clay will absorb Earth and has its Bomb weakness reduced; it also becomes resistant to Weaken, Doom, and Instant Death.
