The Star Hammer is a non-elemental cat toy available to NoLegs in Epic Battle Fantasy 5.

Description

The Star Hammer is a brown wooden mallet with gold plating on its shaft just above and below the head, matching its faces. Its associated shield is a brown wooden buckler with a golden rim and a gold star in the middle.

Normal

As the reward for defeating the strongest optional boss in the game (along with just about all of the other optional bosses), the Star Hammer is a very powerful and well-rounded weapon. It doubles NoLegs's Attack and Magic Attack while granting a decent boost to both defences; it also boasts three useful elemental resistances and has a 100% chance to Dispel foes, which is rarely seen in weapons. It empowers non-elemental attacks, which benefits Star Blast, Sushi Cat, and some of NoLegs's shared skills; it also has a Star Punch unleash and a chance to cast Falling Star between turns. Neither is exceptionally powerful, even with the weapon's boost, but their reasonably high trigger chances lets them add a good amount of damage to NoLegs's offensive when his other non-elemental options are infeasible or on cooldown.

Although the Star Hammer is among the best choices for a balanced offensive weapon on NoLegs, its bulk is somewhat wasted on him. The Honjo Masamune has significantly stronger offences, a more exploitable elemental boost, and good Evade, making it a better pure offensive weapon. On the other hand, the Star Hammer is the only weapon with a 100% Dispel chance; while this is easily replicated with the Dispel skill, Armor Crush, or NoLegs's own Star Blast, the ability to freely use multi-target Dispel with strong offences can be valuable.

Ultimately, the Star Hammer's greatest flaw is its location at the end of the game in one of its most difficult optional dungeons; by the time it is obtained, there won't be much to use it against. However, it may still be useful for any leftover optional areas (such as missed Arcades, NoLegs's Battle Arena challenge, boss rushes, and so on), and it is one of the greatest beneficiaries of the "Randomized Equip Locations" Custom Game (although forging it could be problematic unless most of the Grand Gallery has been unlocked). However, it is at its best in "New Game +", where it can serve as NoLegs primary weapon throughout the game.

The Star Hammer resists Fire, Thunder and Ice. None of these become an immunity at Level 5.

Equip Remix

The Alt Star Hammer continues to take to the stars with massive offences and good amounts of Evade and Accuracy. Its most relevant effect is its high chance to Stun the victims of its weapon-elemental skills; this includes its Normal Attack counter, but any Stun inflicted this way will fade before the party can exploit it (unless the victim has Haste). It also boosts non-elemental attacks, but most of NoLegs's options for such have lengthy cooldown times. Finally, it can summon God between turns to devastate the entire enemy wave - unfortunately, a ludicrously small trigger chance makes it completely unreliable (albeit entertaining when it does happen).

Compared to other non-elemental Cat Toys, the Alt Star Hammer is the most balanced and powerful option. It's effectively Equip Remix's equivalent to the Honjo Masamune, trading some offensive punch for better bulk and on-hit Stun that can be used in an offensive status build. However, it has the same weakness as its normal counterpart; its incredibly late location means that it's unlikely to see much use besides the final boss, optional content, New Game +, and a "Randomized Equip Locations" Custom Game.

The Alt Star Hammer resists Fire, Thunder and Ice, but it won't be immune to any of them at Level 5.

The Star Hammer is obtained as a reward for defeating God in the Temple of Trials.
