"I can attack and heal at the same time!"
―Matt, Epic Battle Fantasy 4

Life Drain, or simply Drain, is a skill available for Matt throughout the Epic Battle Fantasy series. It appears in each of the first four main games.

Description

Upon usage, Matt walks up to the selected enemy and quickly stabs it with his sword, damaging the target while healing HP. A flow of green particles emerge from the target into Matt, representing the health drained.

Both the damage and healing are relatively weak, but it is the only one of Matt's skills to do both at once. Unless Matt is desperately in need of HP, healing can be left to his teammates or even Items.

Equipping the Blood Blade usually boosts the power of Drain.

Note that while Purple Squid has a skill with the same name and similar function, it is a distinct ability.

Epic Battle Fantasy

The skill's HP drain ignores enemy parameters, so it's based entirely on the expected damage before factoring enemy Defence or resistances. Unlike the other Weapon-elemental skills, Drain will not drain MP with the Devil's Sunrise equipped.

Heals self for 50% of expected damage.
With Inferno/Heaven's Gate, deals damage based on enemy Eruption/Seiken resist.

Epic Battle Fantasy 2

Just like in the previous game, Drain's HP drain still ignores enemy parameters. Just like Revenge, it applies Black Fang's Poison, and Attack debuffs from Anarchy and/or Swordbreaker, but not other special effects like MP drain.

Before the EBF Collection update, Drain didn't apply Black Fang's Poison nor the Attack debuffs from Anarchy and Swordbreaker.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3

Drain's element and effects depend on currently equipped weapon. Its HP drain now no longer ignores enemy parameters, and will heal for a portion of damage dealt; no HP will be recovered if the attack is absorbed.
