Hellfire is a Fire-elemental special skill available to Matt, Natalie and Anna in Epic Battle Fantasy 4. It is also present in Epic Battle Fantasy 3 and 5, used only by foes or through the special effects of equipment. It is one of the few skills whose type varies between games.

Description

When cast, a lance-like blast of flame is send at the target, dealing Fire-based medium physical (EBF3) or massive magical (EBF4 & 5) damage with a chance of inflicting the Berserk status.

In EBF4, Hellfire is among the strongest single-target skills in the game (being on par by power with Judgement), outclassing both Natalie's Fireball and Matt's Eruption in terms of base power and elemental property at the cost of potentially making the target more dangerous by Berserking them. It can work very well in the Lankyroot Jungle where nearly every enemy there is weak to Fire.

As Matt and Anna both are primarily physical attackers, Hellfire would naturally deal more damage on the most magically focused character — Natalie. However, Anna may benefit from Hellfire due to not having access to any other Fire damage-focused skills. If aiming just for the status, the Berserk skill has higher status strength and infliction chance.

Unavailable to players, Hellfire is used exclusively by Blaze and Skull Ghosts. The Rune Claw can also use it when Akron is in his Fire mode.

Found in the Crystal Caverns, in the top-left chest one screen below the Slime Cat. The Hammer is required to break the path-blocking stones at the bottom of the Slime Cat screen.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

Hellfire is now present as a bonus skill from the Alt Hellfire Shotgun (gun), but can also be emulated by use of the Flame Wraith summon.

Flame Wraiths, Master Wraiths and the Zombie Hydra can also use Hellfire.
