The Dragon Claw is a Bio-elemental sword available for Matt in Epic Battle Fantasy 4.

Description

Although classified as a sword, the Dragon Claw is actually the severed arm of what appears to be a Red Dragon, with an exposed bone acting as the hilt. The arm is covered in red scales, with five clawed digits at the end. It appears to be locked in place by rigor mortis, allowing it to be wielded like a club.

The Dragon Claw provides fairly little in way of stats - only an average boost to both offenses. It empowers Matt's Bio skills and counters with a Normal Attack; like all of its weapon-elemental skills, this can unleash Toxic and Poison the victim. It will also Poison Matt between turns, although its Bio resistance mitigates this; by stacking other Bio-resistant equipment, Matt can even heal slightly from the status.

The Dragon Claw is strictly for Bio-weak foes; it can either use Bamboo Trap for solid damage, fire off Swift Slash for mass Poison, or just use Legend and its Normal Attack (counter or otherwise) to rapidly stack and maintain Poison on a vulnerable target. It also has great synergy with the Gas Mask, which nullifies its auto-Poison while increasing the amount of Poison stacks Matt can pile on his enemies.

Despite several fun effects (and the potential for numerous arm puns), the Dragon Claw is not particularly powerful, especially given how late it is obtained. Against anything but large waves of Bio-weak foes, it can be easily interchanged with the appropriate elemental weapon, the Sapphire Giant, or the Equilibrium.

The Dragon Claw resists two elements: Bio and Fire. It won't be immune to either one at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

The Dragon Claw is found in the Temple of Godcat, in the rightmost chest at the Ice Cave entrance screen. The chest is blocked by a boulder that must be smashed with The Hammer.

Trivia

  • The Dragon Claw is more or less the only evidence to suggest that the members of the Dragon family do, in fact, have a body.
  • Despite the Dragon Claw apparently being from a Red Dragon, the Red Dragon has no Bio-elemental skills or even a Bio affinity. As such, it is unclear how the Dragon Claw has the ability to inflict Poison.
    • It is plausible that the Red Dragon itself does not have any poisoning capabilities, but the blood or possibly the claws themselves contain a toxic material of some sort. Since Red Dragons never use their actual bodies to attack, their poisonous biology would never come into play during a battle.
    • Another possibility is that the Dragon Claw is beginning to rot and toxify, making it hazardous to both wield (self-Poison) and be struck by (its various poisonous on-hit effects). The Bad Mushroom and Bio Virus used as its forging materials could represent fauna that are contributing to its decomposition.
