The Basket Hat in EBF5.

The Basket Hat is a male hat found in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. Its armor counterpart is the Ninja Gear.

Description

The Basket Hat is a traditional Asian rice hat, a broad conical hat made of straw. It is a pale tan color with a black top, and has several rivets around its rim. It obscures the upper half of the wearer's face when equipped.

Normal

The Basket Hat provides a subpar boost to both defenses; both of these stats are the lowest non-zero boost of any headgear, tied with the Headband and the Officer's Hat (as well as the Cardboard Box for Defence). However, between the highest Evade and the second-highest Accuracy of any hat (only beaten by the Spelunking Hat in the latter), it gives its wearer a great chance to dodge attacks while having a better chance of landing his own in return. While it only has one special effect, it is notable as the only male hat that enhances thrown items. This can make Shurikens and Hand Bombs surprisingly decent attack options, gives Snowballs a very high Chill chance, and lets the wearer inflict the maximum number of Target stacks on himself by throwing a Brick.

The Basket Hat resists Thunder, Weaken, Tired, Death and Doom. All but the Thunder resistance become an immunity at Level 5.

Equip Remix

The Alt Basket Hat has the best Evade and Accuracy of any male hat in Equip Remix, but its mediocre Defence and Magic Defence make it rather frail. It enhances the power and effects of throwing items, but it also has a decent chance to grant Haste to its wearer between turns.

The Alt Basket Hat resists Thunder, Weaken, Tired, Death and Doom. It becomes immune to all but the first at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

Found inside a chest in No Man's Land, on the same screen as the entrance to the Mineshaft Maze. The Hammer is required to reach the chest.

Trivia

  • The Basket Hat's description may be a reference to how real-life ninjas would usually wear ordinary clothes (such as the outfit of a rice farmer or a merchant) to hide in plain sight, instead of the all-concealing black garb associated with them in popular culture. Notably, the Ninja Hood of previous games appeared as a basket hat in the overworld.
