Matt and Lance wearing the Army Helmet in EBF4

The Army Helmet (also known as Soldier Helmet) is a Bomb-resistant male hat available in Epic Battle Fantasy 3, 4 and 5. Its armor counterpart is the Army Jacket.

Description

The Army Helmet is a green combat helmet with a small visor and thick brown netting. A small microphone is mounted on the right earflap, extending to the wearer's mouth; presumably, this is connected to a communication device inside the helmet.

In EBF5, the Army Helmet has thinner netting and a band wrapped around it, just above the visor. It is brown by default and changes its color depending on the wearer's weapon - alternate colors include grey, red, green, and blue. The different colors also come with slightly different accessories:

  • The grey and blue helmets have a black band with white edges and two bullets strapped to it.
  • The green helmet has a black band with white edges and three green leaves strapped to it.
  • The brown helmet has a brown band with light brown edges and a small White Feather strapped to it.
  • The red helmet has a pure black band that seems to be tied at the back, leaving the end dangling behind the helmet.

When worn by NoLegs, the Army Helmet is visibly askew, presumably due to his ears.

The Army Helmet generally has good defenses, a Bomb resistance, and the ability to cast Medipack between turns.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3

The Soldier Helmet has quite a bit of bulk; among male headgear, its Defence is only behind the Knight Helmet and its Magic Defence is only matched by the Viking Helmet and the Mage Hat. Its resistance is situational at best, but it makes up for it with the ability to randomly summon Medipacks between turns when fully forged. This passive healing and status removal makes the Soldier Helmet very valuable despite being available from the beginning of the game; before it's fully upgraded, however, other hats may be preferable for their resistances or other bonuses.

The Soldier Helmet resists Bomb, up to 50% at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

The Army Helmet has the second-best Defence and Magic Defence among male headgear, only outdone by the Space Helmet and the Demon Skull (as well as the Knight Helmet for Defence). It can cast Medipack between turns; while somewhat unreliable, this can still lighten the party's healing duties. In this niche, it competes with the Puppy Hat, which is slightly bulkier and has a more versatile (but even less reliable) support skill via its Friend Dog auto-summon.

Aside from its auto-skill and resistances, the Army Helmet is mostly outclassed by the Dragon Helm (which has identical defenses, small offensive boosts, and auto-Morale) and the Space Helmet (which is just all-around bulkier).

The Army Helmet resists Bomb and Stagger, with the latter becoming an immunity at max level.

Normal

The Army Helmet has average Defence and good Magic Defence for a male hat. Between turns, it can drop a Medipack to heal one character and remove any status ailments they may be suffering from; it will actively target the most badly-damaged player, making it a little more efficient.

Although it's not particularly useful for Hope Harbor, the Army Helmet's resistances can assist Matt or NoLegs for the battle against Jotun; sadly, it won't be upgraded that early on a first playthrough (in subsequent runs, Plastic can be acquired from foes in the Grand Gallery). Fortunately, the foes in No Man's Land can provide the Materials needed to upgrade it to Level 4, making it quite effective for the Iron Fortress. Afterwards, it loses some potency due to its resistances being less relevant and part of its Level 5 forging requirements being very difficult to acquire until the late game; its auto-skill remains helpful, however.

The Army Helmet resists Bomb, Stun, Confuse and Stagger, becoming immune to all of them at Level 5.

Equip Remix

While its defenses are mediocre (particularly Magic Defence), the Alt Army Helmet brings the medivac to the battlefield with triple elemental resistances and three boosts that make it an incredibly useful support hat.

The Alt Army Helmet powers up buffing skills and all three types of item: healing, buffing, and thrown. This makes it a useful support hat that can play several roles. The buff boost and the healing item boosts allows the player to have stronger buffs and significant boosts from both drinks and food items; on the other hand, while not strictly meant for a throwing build, the Alt Army Helmet does give strong Snowball and Hand Bomb status chances, which can be used for setting up Chill (and therefore Freeze) and Stagger.

As a support hat, the Alt Army Helmet's closest competition is the Alt Santa Hat, which has identical Food and buff boosts. The Alt Army Helmet's advantages include a throwing item boost, more versatile resistances, and being slightly easier to acquire (unless the player is playing in December and/or willing to mess with their system clock).

The Alt Army Helmet resists Bomb, Bio, and Earth. None of these become an immunity at Level 5.

Trivia

  • The most common Army Helmet color is brown, with 26 different weapons (nine of Matt's, six of Lance's, and eleven of NoLegs's) causing it to take that palette. Conversely, blue is the least common color; notably, NoLegs has no weapons that give him that palette, while Matt and Lance only have three weapons each.
  • The red Army Helmet is the only color variation to appear with the exact same number of weapons among all three male characters; specifically, four.
