The Vortex Cannon is a Wind-elemental gun available for Lance in Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5.

Description

The Vortex Cannon is a rugged rocket launcher made entirely out of grey steel; based on its EBF5 description, it apparently was made out of an industrial-grade wind generator. It has a cylindrical body surrounded by four thick metal rings; one at either end and two in the middle. The latter support a large iron sight heavily stylized to resemble a gust of wind, the rear ring has a narrow fin on top and a small ring or vent on the side, and the front ring has a grip protruding from the bottom.

In EBF4, the Vortex Cannon was a mostly uniform metallic silver. EBF5 darkened its main body, removed the tiny rivet details along its underside, and recolored its grips to be purple instead of grey. It also gave the gun a matching revolver with a dark grey body and purple accents.

The Vortex Cannon tends towards pure magical offense, with very high Magic Attack matched by few (if any) other guns; it also has some minor defensive boosts in exchange for equally small drops to Accuracy and Evade. Its weapon-elemental attacks can inflict Dispel, and it passively boosts Wind damage; since Lance has no natural skills to exploit this, it usually has some automatic Wind skills. Its resistances consistently include Wind and Stagger; the latter becomes an immunity when the gun is fully upgraded.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

The Vortex Cannon has the highest Magic Attack of all guns, as well as slight boosts to Defence and Magic Defence; this comes at the cost of slight Accuracy and Evade penalties, but these are generally negligible. It may unleash Shockwave as a bonus skill, which compliments its high Magic Attack and its innate boost to Wind skills. While it can Dispel foes with weapon-elemental attacks, Crush is a far more efficient option.

Assuming one is using Lance in the first place, the Vortex Cannon is his best option for pure magical offense. That said, the Shadow Blaster has slightly more reliability in exchange for some raw power; more importantly, it is more effective against Dark-weak foes, which gives it greater efficiency in the final area. However, the Vortex Cannon is still a very powerful day-to-day weapon with negligible penalties; its Accuracy drop can easily be compensated for with the Target Badge or Lock On support.

The Vortex Cannon resists Wind and Stagger, with the latter becoming an immunity at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

Normal

The Vortex Cannon has outstanding Magic Attack and modest boosts for Defence, Magic Defence, and HP. It decreases Accuracy and Evade slightly, but these aren't especially significant losses. It may cast Whirlwind and Dispel enemies with weapon-elemental attacks - the latter trait can help mitigate Armor Crush's cooldown turn or improve its ability to debuff Dispel-resistant foes. It can also counter enemy attacks with Airwave, giving Lance another option for magical Wind damage and a small chance to Stagger his target.

Despite its support abilities, the Vortex Cannon's main selling point is its amazing Magic Attack, being the highest of any gun in the free version and second only to the Green Goliath otherwise. Sadly, it is hopelessly outclassed outside of the free version due to the presence of the Flame Titan, which boasts the same raw power and a significantly more useful elemental boost; Wind is a less common weakness than Fire, and Lance naturally learns Bullet Hell to take advantage of it. However, the Vortex Cannon's stats make it the most powerful choice for Lance in the free version; even in the paid version, its defensive stats and added abilities can give it a niche as a more supportive gun that can still dish out serious damage when the opportunity arises.

The Vortex Cannon resists Wind, Light, Heavy, Stagger and Confuse. It becomes immune to all but the first at Level 5.

Equip Remix

The Alt Vortex Cannon provides a great Magic Attack boost (the fourth-best of any gun in Equip Remix) and a pinch of HP. It boosts Wind, Water and Ice skills, theoretically giving it a broad range of coverage; unfortunately, none of these elements are in Lance's base kit. The gun has a decent chance to cast Low Gravity between turns, allowing it to automatically boost the party's Wind skills while making them more resistant to Earth attacks; however, remember that the enemies can get similar benefits.

Despite good magical offense and a wealth of elemental boosts, the Alt Vortex Cannon is quite dedicated to Wind and pales in comparison to more efficient weapons. The Alt Shadow Blaster isn't quite as strong, but it has Fire and Dark boosts that Lance can abuse with his natural skillset; on the other hand, the Alt Flame Titan and Alt Heartstopper outclass the Alt Vortex Cannon in raw magical power, despite their significant penalties.

The Alt Vortex Cannon resists Wind, Stagger, and Confuse, becoming immune to all of them at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

The Vortex Cannon is found in Lankyroot Jungle, in the bottom-right chest on the deep forest screen. The chest is guarded by a battle that appears as a Cat Soldier.

The Vortex Cannon can be bought in any equipment shop for 8,000 gold, e.g. in Hope Harbor, Greenwood Village or Redpine Town.
