Secret World

The Secret World is an optional location in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is only accessible from a temple inside the Forgotten Ruins; by placing the three Sacred Jewels on the pedestals in the temple, a magic circle will be activated that enables the party to travel to the Secret World.

Description

The Secret World is one of the smallest locations in the game, with an entirely different aesthetic. Its terrain is comprised of black polygons with green outlines, while its background is almost entirely black. The background is also littered with white stars, some of which contain items. These stars sparkle and pulse every so often.

The second screen has the singular denizen of this realm, protected by two rows of spikes. To reach him, the players must interact with two white stars in the same screen, which act as levers that toggle the spikes.

Foes

"There seems to be a lack of elements in this dimension. That's one factor we don't need to worry about for once!"
―Lance's comment during the battle with Snowflake, Epic Battle Fantasy 5

The only foe present in this area is Snowflake.

Trivia

  • The Secret World is aesthetically inspired by Undertale, the popular video game developed by Toby Fox.
    • The environment appears similar to the minimalistic "wireframe" backgrounds that appear during some scenes.
    • The stars have some resemblance to the game's save points.
    • Snowflake is depicted in a similar graphical style to opponents in Undertale.
    • The Medal for defeating Snowflake on Epic Difficulty is called "Determination," a recurring theme and concept in the game.
  • If Snowflake is killed in battle, all of the green outlines will turn gray and the white stars in the background become red-glowing eyes. Conversely, if Snowflake is captured instead of killed, the green outlines become gold and the white stars in the background will turn into hearts.
    • These visual changes are references to Undertale's Genocide and Pacifist endings respectively.
