Hidden Power, also called Rapture in EBF4, is a weapon-elemental special Limit Break available for all characters in Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5. It is exclusive to the Steam release of the game and the Premium Pack in EBF4; In EBF5, it is available in all versions of the game.

Description

Upon casting, a geyser of energy erupts from beneath the foes, with the color depending on the element of the user's equipped weapon. The energy ray then expands and engulfs the enemies in a massive shockwave, dealing great damage with very high Accuracy.

The element and effects of this Limit Break are determined by the user's currently equipped weapon. In EBF4, Natalie can make the best use of Rapture; not only does she have a wide array of staves with potent elements and on-hit effects, her excellent Magic Attack lets her inflict the maximum amount of damage with the skill.

In EBF5, Hidden Power is essentially a stronger, multi-target version of Matt's Unleash, doubling the elemental degree and status chance of the user's equipped weapon. It has also gained the ability to be either physical or magical depending on the user's higher offensive stat, including equipment boosts and in-battle buffs. For example, if the character has 500 Attack and 300 Magic Attack, Hidden Power will deal physical damage; if the same character suffers a -50% Attack debuff (giving them an effective Attack of 250), Hidden Power would deal magical damage.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

Rapture is found in the Premium-exclusive Battle Mountain area, specifically on the ice block puzzle screen, in the chest that drops after solving the puzzle. A Battery is required to get this far, used to open a door a few screens before.

Rapture hits twice, which isn't reflected in its description. The first hit deals no damage (yet is still treated as having the equipped weapon's element) but applies any on-hit effects as normal, and the second hit deals damage and applies the weapon's effects again. With a weapon that debuffs Defence or Magic Defence or inflicts an element-affecting status (like putting the Peace Sticker while using a Dark weapon), the first hit can be used to set up a combo for the second hit. Pre-v3, the first hit will also consume Stagger and one stack of any damage boosting statuses like Wet.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

Hidden Power is obtained by completing Kirsan's quest in the Rainbow River, one screen below Jotun's location. Its power is roughly similar to its EBF4 incarnation, but it costs less AP to fully upgrade and it applies its damage over ten hits instead of one. It also doubles the elemental degree and infliction chance of the user's equipped weapon following the v2 update.

Trivia

  • Hidden Power is the only Limit Break that can be learnt by all characters, in both EBF4 and 5.
  • The name 'Hidden Power' is likely a nod to the Pokémon move of the same name, sharing 'element'-changing properties.
