The Epic Battle Fantasy Collection, or EBF Collection is a compilation of Matt Roszak's older works. While the main content featured is his eight earlier games (Epic Battle Fantasy, Epic Battle Fantasy 2, Adventure Story, Bullet Heaven, Brawl Royale, Mecha Dress Up Game, The Kitten Game, and Cat Cafe), several in-game prototypes are available to be played with.

Content

The Epic Battle Fantasy Collection contains (as of update v1.9) 30 in-game prototypes. Many of these were initially featured on the Kupogames website until they were removed.

Game 1

A simple and difficult, but very complete prototype of Brawl Royale. Press the space bar to react

RPG

Matt's first attempt (and humble origins) at programming a turn-based RPG mechanic. He claims it was a "mess" but otherwise still functional.

How to Draw in Flash

A 2008 tutorial showing Matt's techniques on Flash art. Virtually nothing has changed in his technique as of 2022, save for a tablet instead of a mouse.

Platforming prototypes

Platformer

Matt's first attempt at programming a platfromer (what would later be the basis genre/mechanic for Adventure Story), with janky movement and camera. Use the arrow keys to move and jump.

Platformer Engine

A very ambitious project, with complex combat mechanics. A bit too complicated for a browser game, according to Matt. This would serve as the basis for the combat mechanics found in Adventure Story. Arrow keys for movement, A and S for light and heavy attacks, D for jumping and F for defend (while standing) and dodging (while moving). The arrow keys can be used in conjunction with the attack keys for various combo attacks. Enter to reset and escape to change the controls.

Platformer1

The closest prototype to Adventure Story with a few levels of platforming and an end boss. ZXC, space and arrow keys used.

EBF2 Minigame prototypes

NoLegs vs History

A protoype of the EBF2 Minigame, set in a graveyard for unknown reasons. The left, right, and up arrow keys are for movement to collect hearts and gems, while the down key is for attacking the Skeleton Cats. There is also a non-functionable block button (A).

NoLegs vs Farm Cat

A less stable 2-player version of the EBF2 minigame (bugs and all). The second player have to use the WASD keys for movement and attack.

EBF3 Spell Animations and Equip Test

Before the games are programmed, Matt first designs the graphics, animations and related codes featured (e.g. Spells and Equips), with an application (test harness) created and used for testing.

Overworld

A test done by Matt in an attempt to implement exploration in EBF3, with some difficulty. Space and Arrow Keys used.

Map Systems (3, 4, 5)

Map systems for EBF's 3, 4 and 5 with a unique overworld not found in the final game. They're mostly playable, with 4 introducing new mechanics such as special tiles, switches and puzzles, and 5 even having an ending.

NPC Makers (3, 4, 5)

A special tool that was released to create NPC's. Some of the fan OC's even featured in the final product. In order to implement NPC's into the game screenshots of the NPC's attributes were saved into codes, which were then defined in the final product.

Bullet Heaven prototypes

Shmup Cats

Three Shmup Cat prototypes were harnessed to test Bullet Heaven's bullet hell mechanic. The first prototype uses the arrow keys to dodge bullets, the second also uses S and D to shoot the main and sub weapons, and the third basically tests how many enemies Matt can cram onscreen without crashing.

BH2 Engine Test

A test harness for Bullet Heaven 2, originally designed for the mobile gaming platform. It is playable with the mechanics and a fightable boss.

EBF4 Battle Demo

Originally exclusive on Kongregate Plus, this test harness was created to demonstrate EBF4's battle mechanics.

EBF5 protoypes

Includes style test, battle demo, and all 5 character tests (and their evil counterparts).
