Game Over is an event that occurs when all player characters are dead at the same time, that is, their HP (Health Points) are reduced to 0.

The game screen fades and the Game Over screen appears, from where the player may return to the main menu and load their latest save (or autosave) to continue the game.

• In 2, this screen will offer a gameplay tip based on the area the party died in.
• 3 is the first game in the series that has a unique Game Over theme.

In Epic Battle Fantasy 4 onward, if all three characters currently on field are dead, but the character(s) in backup are still alive, Game Over doesn't yet occur, but rather the character in the backup slot automatically replaces one of his/her fallen comrades and the battle continues.
