Lance casting Barrier on the party, Epic Battle Fantasy 4
"Barrier is gonna be very useful later on, when bosses become strong enough to knock us out in one hit!"
―Natalie/Lance, Epic Battle Fantasy 4

Barrier is a recurring buffing skill in the Epic Battle Fantasy series. It is commonly associated with Natalie, being one of her natural skills in the first three games, but later games made it a shared skill for her, Lance, and NoLegs.

Description

Barrier creates a shield of translucent hexagons in front of the party, which quickly appear and disappear. The hexagons are blue in Epic Battle Fantasy 1 and 5 and red in all other games. This boosts the party's Magic Defence by a set percentage, which decreases by 5% each turn. Prior to the v2 update, it did not affect members in Backup in EBF4; backup does not exist in earlier games and the skill was changed to affect players in backup in EBF5.

Barrier, like all buffs, is an incredibly useful skill and should be used very frequently. It has a long cooldown in EBF5, so the player should plan when to use it.

Epic Battle Fantasy

Barrier is part of Natalie's WMagic skill set. It boosts the party's Magic Defence to 65%, despite its description. Prior to the EBF Collection update, the description also erroneously said it boosted by 50%.

Epic Battle Fantasy 2

Before the EBF Collection update, Barrier raised the party's Magic Defence to +65% (contrary to its description once again). It acts similarly to its previous version, but it now costs more MP and also has a new animation.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3

Once again, Barrier is one of Natalie's WMagic skills. However, in accordance with the new RPG mechanics, it must be unlocked, learned, and upgraded with AP.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

Barrier is now a Special Skill available for Natalie and Lance. It is technically unlocked at the start of the game, though Natalie is the first character who can learn it. Its animation was modified so the hexagons always appear and disappear in a set order instead of randomly.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

Barrier is a Special Skill available for Natalie, Lance and NoLegs. Its animation was updated again, returning the hexagons to their original blue coloration; it also affects all backup allies, and has a 5-turn cooldown.

NoLegs joins with Barrier already learned at Level 1.
